Laura Widyanto is a psychologist who specialises in the field of Cyber Addiction, with a particular focus on how this relates towards the internet and the online world in today’s modern society.[1] She graduated with a PhD (Doctor of Philosophy, Psychology) relating to the area of behavioural addictions and cyberpsychology in 2007 from Nottingham Trent University after completing her research which began in October 2003. She also holds a BSC in Applied Psychology from Cardiff University where she graduated after a 4 year course in the year 2000. She speaks English, Indonesian, Javanese, French and Italian. [2]
Research Into The Field Of Internet Addiction
[edit]Along with her co-author, Mark Griffiths, she has published 4 notable academic works all relating to the field of Internet addiction. With Griffiths the two have built on the instrumental and existing IAT (Internet Addiction Test)[3] created by Dr Kimberly Young and subsequently have developed their own more thorough tool for examination entitled the “Psychometric Properties of the Internet Addiction Test”. This test composes of the original questions as well as a selection of others devised by Widyanto and Griffiths in order to more thoroughly evaluate the growing concern of internet addiction in young people today.[4]
