Felix Manuel Lobrecht (born December 24, 1988 in Mettingen)[1], is a German stand-up comedian, podcast host and author.
Life and Education
[edit]Lobrecht was born in Münster. After his mother died of breast cancer in 1993, his then single father Frank moved to Berlin with him and his two younger siblings Julian and Sophie.[2] Lobrecht grew up in the Berlin district of Gropiusstadt[3], in the borough of Neukölln.[2]
From 2001 to 2003, he attended the Hannah-Arendt-Gymnasium in the Neukölln district of Rudow but was expelled in 2003 for conspicuous behavior. He transferred to the Clay comprehensive school, where he graduated from secondary school in 2005. Afterwards, he worked in a gym and in the plant wholesale[4] business for some time. In 2008, he obtained the advanced technical college entrance qualification in Berlin-Schöneweide and finally the general university entrance qualification in 2012 via a "Nichtschülerprüfung“. This type of external examination enables the acquisition of a state-recognized educational qualification in self-taught preparation without previous attendance of a corresponding school. Lobrecht discontinued both his apprenticeship as an industrial clerk and his journalism degree.[5] From the winter semester 2012/13 onwards, he studied political science and economics at the Philipps University of Marburg; in 2016, he transferred to the University of Potsdam.[6] Following a break, he resumed his studies in the summer semester of 2021 at the Philipps University of Marburg.[7]
Lobrecht lives in Berlin-Kreuzberg at the Kottbusser Tor.[8]
Artistic Career
[edit]Lobrecht first became known through his participation in various poetry slams and from 2015 onwards as a stand-up comedian. He had already gained first stage experiences ten years earlier when doing small breakdance performances in Berlin. Since 2017, Lobrecht no longer performs as a poetry slammer, but only as a comedian in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. On stage, he mostly tells absurd everyday stories, which he embellishes with intentionally bad puns and longer pauses. Most of the time a Berlin dialect resonates.
Lobrecht became more widely known through his appearancs on TV shows such as the Cologne Comedy Night XXL 2016 and the RTL-II-show Comedy Champions 2016.[9] His first live tour was entitled kenn ick. Since 2020, he has been performing his program hype and has also taken part in other comedy events such as the 1LIVE-Auditorium-Comedy or in the TV-show Nuhr ab 18 by Dieter Nuhr.[10]
His first novel 10 Minuten? Dit sind ja 20 Mark!, a collaboration with poetry slammer Malte Rosskopf, was published by Satyr publishing company in October 2015.[11] Lobrecht's second novel Sonne und Beton was published by Ullstein publishing company on March 10, 2017. It contains stories and anecdotes inspired by his childhood and adolescence in Berlin-Neukölln and Gropiusstadt.[12][13] Based on the novel, a film of the same name will be released in spring 2023. Lobrecht himself wrote the screenplay.[14]
Since September 2017, Lobrecht and Tommi Schmitt have been publishing the weekly podcast Gemischtes Hack,[15] now exclusively available on Spotify.[16] Since June 2019, they have also been running the 1LIVE comedy format Was machen Sachen?, in which the two answer absurd questions. The episodes are published weekly on YouTube.[17]
From October 2019 to September 2021, 1LIVE published 38 episodes of the category Wie geht?, in which Lobrecht had to guess a life hack on the basis of ordinary utensils he was provided with.
Since February 10, 2022, Lobrecht has been hosting the two-hour program 1LIVE 99 Problems on 1LIVE once a month.[18]
On February 12, 2021, The New York Times published an article on Lobrecht that made it to the front page of the international print edition on February 17.[19][20]
