Breaking Down the Standard of Beauty
[edit]Women beauty is a complex idea. Often times, women's beauty stems from what society wants them to be; mothers. a body image that fits that ideal, is often looked at as beautiful. Cite error: A <ref>

(see the help page).</ref>. Every day, women are being judged on their looks from every angle of life. The media is a huge contributor to this. It tells how what we need to do to be more beautiful and more pleasing to men. Make up is a perfect example of how we are being told to be more beautiful. It is a huge industry that advertises itself all over. [1]. Society creates an idea that the only thing a woman is good for is her looks, and she is held to extremely high standards. This creates thoughts in people's minds and creates the inequality between men and women.
Make Up
[edit]Make up is a huge industry that makes an extremely large profit. This make up industry is making money off of women having low self-esteem because they see all these successful, beautiful women and they strive to be like that. Anxiety is something that plays a huge role as well. Women become anxious because of the advertisements and the need to have this perfect face. Beauty ideals are stuck in our mind because of the constant advertisments constantly being played. This instills a feeling of low self-worth and a need to always be better. The make up industry is booming, and benefiting from their consumers, with $7 million being sold each year. There is a direct correlation between feeling unattractive, and using cosmetic products. This shows how make-up industries benefit from girls and women's anxiety and low self-esteem. [2].
Social Media
[edit]Besides make-up ads in the media, social media plays a large role in standards of beauty. Social media stems from so many views. There are millions of people on social media and these are all those people's view points coming in to to one place. Social media often times portrays ways in which women should look and act. Because there are so many people on social media, others may look to this and be inspired, so to say. There may be unrealistic ideas of beauty on social media, and because it is so public, people are see everything. Instagram is a form of social media dedicated to displaying pictures of yourself, and life experiences. There is a need for always wanting recognition for ones beauty. Although social media could be detrimental to ones self-esteem, it is also used for spreading awareness. [3] Social media often goes along with the idea of "mainstream beauty" and it is promoted all over.
