Hey-figured that putting off Calculus homework would be more
fulfilling if I could contribute to the service that distracts me
from it so well.
•==WikiGoals==
I'm just as entitled to use "wiki" as a prefix when it's already
assumed because of context as the next person. Anyways, here is a
list of articles I want to improve/create:
•Expand the stub on "dropouts"-it's a highly important
sociological issue that should consist of more than a stub that
was once (justifiably, I should add) a candidate for speedy deletion.
•On a related topoic , create an article/stub (whichever seems more appropriate) on 'dropout mills', schools where a very high proportion of the student body fails to graduate.
•Create an article on the case Wilder v. New York City Foster Care System a case in which an NYCLU lawyer sued on the behalf of an African-American girl named Shirley Wilder, who had been damaged by the foster care system, which gave priority to whites. Officially, the system gave priority to Jews & Catholics, but since most African-Americans were (and still are)Protestant, this put them at a disadvantage, especially considering that only 4% of children in foster care at the time were Jewish, and blacks formed 85% of the children in foster care at the time.
•Create an article/stub on the book The Lost Children of Wilder:
The Epic Struggle to Change Foster Care, by Nina Bernstein. A great book, highly recommend it. More importantly, was a National
Book Award Finalist in 2002, meeting the criteria for 'notable
book' status.
•Expand/update various pages pertaining to AP classes, as a high school student I'm directly affected by changes to the classes/exams. (ie,
to save time, this year the instructions for the AP Spanish Exam
will be read only in Spanish; in previous years they were read in
English & Spanish.)
•Create an article on 'Alphabet Houses', the homes built by the government for the workers (and their families) for the Manhattan project in Richland, Washington. As much as it sounds like a hoax, you can say, for example, a 'B House', and everyone would likely know
that you're speaking about a duplex with three rooms and an unfinished basement. 'L houses' are two stories w/ four bedrooms, 'Q houses' (my mother's lifelong ambition) are three bedrooms upstairs with a large basement to which nearly everyone has added a laundry room, bedroom, 3/4 bath, and living area. Makes real estate description very odd if from outside the area.
Post a message on my talk page if you would be interested in contributing to any of these projects, or really, for any non-troll
reason. Example: posting a message on my talk page to tell me that
I'm: a faggot, smell bad or strings of curse words.
