Hi everyone!

I'm Dutch, and live in The Netherlands, near Utrecht.

My main interests and themes in real life and of course also on Wikipedia are literature and intersectional feminism.

On 1 May 2020, this edit on the page Body positivity was my 500th edit, which seems to be a big(ish) deal for Wikipedia; this made my account an extended confirmed user. Statistics can be found here.

I fully support the essay Wikipedia:Hate is disruptive.

It would be very very convenient if there was a en:WP:Cross-wiki watchlists for all Wikimedia-wiki's a user has ever edited pages on.

Ping

[edit]

If you want a Wiki user to get a notification about a comment you post on a talk page, you can use this wiki-code: {{ping|user name}} and then the message. For instance: {{ping|Mark_in_wiki}} message.
After publication, this will look like @Mark in wiki: message, and the user will get a notification of your post.

Utrecht University Edit-a-thon

[edit]

A Wikipedia Edit-a-thon (editing marathon) is a sprint-like event, where Wikipedia editors edit and improve a specific topic or type of content. The first Utrecht University Wikipedia Edit-a-thon was on 26 January 2021 between 1-5 pm, the second one was on 8 March 2021. It is a collaboration between Young Women of Geoscience (YWOG) and Women in Information and Computing Sciences (WICS). You will find more information and a list of participants on the Project page.

Utrecht University Wikipedians

[edit]

At Utrecht University, we created a Wikipedia-team, where Wikipedia editors (Wikipedians) can discuss editing Wikipedia, teach and help each other, and where we can organize Wikipedia Edit-a-thons (editing marathons); sprint-like events, where Wikipedians edit and improve a specific topic or type of content.

You will find more information on UU-Wikipedians.

Welcoming a new editor

[edit]

There are several templates to welcome a new editor, but I don't really like them. I put a Welcome-message on the Talk page of a new user today, by editing a template and the introduction page for new editors, and plan to use it again in the future. This is it:

Welcome!

Hi ***username***, welcome to Wikipedia!

As you get started, you may find this short tutorial helpful:

Learn more about editing

Wikipedia is a free encyclopedia, written collaboratively by the people who use it. Since 2001, it has grown rapidly to become the world's largest reference website, with 6.9 million articles in English attracting billions of views every month. For a more detailed account of the project, see About Wikipedia.

Don't be afraid to editAnyone can edit (almost) every page; just find something that can be improved and make it better! You can add content (preferably with references), correct spelling and grammar mistakes, improve prose to make it more readable, or any number of other tasks. It's normal for new contributors to feel a little overwhelmed by all of our policies, but don't worry if you don't understand everything at first; it's fine to use common sense as you edit, and if you accidentally mess something up, another editor can always fix or improve it later. So go ahead, edit an article and help make Wikipedia the world's best information source!

Suggest improvements – Each article also has a "Talk" page, where you can suggest improvements and corrections to the article. Please sign your messages on Talk Pages by typing four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date.

Donate – Wikipedia is free to use and edited by entirely volunteers, but it relies on donations to keep the servers running. Please consider donating to help fund the project's maintenance and development costs.

Happy editing! ~~~~
