The Kingdom of the Navasse (French: Royaume de la Navasse; Navassen Creole: Wayom Lanavaz) is a micronation that claims the island of Navassa Island. The micronation is not recognised by any country or government.
Navasse, formerly Legiálle, was founded in 2017 as a micronational project, but is registered in the United States as the organisation Couronne de la Navasse. The micronation is heavily influenced by Haitian culture, and draws inspiration from the Kingdom of Haiti. Navasse's founder, and current Sovereign, is Marie-Adélina de la Ferrière. A Black transwoman, she is a cognatic descendant of the late King Henry Christophe of Haiti through his natural grandson, Pierre Nord Alexis.
In addition to ensuring the preservation of Navassa Island's natural resources and biodiversity, Navasse has maintained several key policies: promotion of Haitian culture and art, the defense of the rights of LGBTQ + people, the fight against child poverty, and the promotion of interracial dialogue. It has also maintained a mission to create, advocate, and support projects that fosters positive relationships in communities. They have raised funds for local charities in upstate New York through its drag queen calendar fundraiser, Flower City Queens.[3]
In 2019, Navasse joined La Microfrancophonie, an organization of French-speaking micronations.[4] Navasse (under its former name) became the organization's 17th member and the first from the Caribbean region.
