Lady Hypatia (born 28 June 1990), also known as Hypatia of Athane, is the nom de plume of a Wikipedian history student currently based at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, who also happens to be an aspirant writer of fiction.
Life and education
[edit]Lady Hypatia was born on 28 June 1990 in the Johannesburg General Hospital, in the north-central Johannesburg suburb of Parktown. Her mother is a retired driving instructor and her father, a former accountant, owns a bookstore in Melville. Matrilineally reckoned she can trace her ancestry to late eighteenth century Gloucestershire, while patrilineally her ancestry can be traced all the way back to twelfth century Kent. The majority of her ancestors seem to have arrived in South Africa with the 1820 Settlers, although there also some more recent Lebanese immigrants on her mother's side.
After matriculating in 2008, she went on to study at the University of the Witwatersrand. She obtained her BA degree in 2012, majoring in history and sociology, and is currently working on her MA thesis.
