Slammiversary 2007 was the third annual Slammiversary professional wrestling pay-per-view event produced by Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA). It took place on June 17 2007 at the Nashville Municipal Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee.[3] It marked the fifth anniversary of the promotion and TNA's first televised event in the state of Tennessee since the end of their weekly pay-per-view events in September 2004.[1] The tagline was "Massacre in Music City!." The official theme song was "Boom Boom" by the LoCash Cowboys,[4] who performed the song live.[5]

The main event was a King of the Mountain match for the vacant TNA World Heavyweight Championship consisting of Kurt Angle, Samoa Joe, A.J. Styles, Christian Cage, and Chris Harris, which was won by Angle after he hung up the belt. The main matches on the undercard were Chris Sabin versus Jay Lethal for the TNA X Division Championship and Team 3D (Brother Ray and Brother Devon) versus Rick Steiner and Road Warrior Animal for the TNA World Tag Team Championship.

Prior to the main event Jeff Jarrett held a shoot interview where he discussed the recent death of his wife Jill,[3] who died on May 23 2007 of breast cancer.[6][7] Jarrett discussed how she influenced the company during the "early days" followed by saying he doesn't know when or where he'll wrestle again.[3] Jarrett then concluded by thanking the fans for their support on his and his wife's behalf.[3] The fans responded by chanting Jill's name as well as "Thank you Jeff."[3]

Background

The main feud heading into Slammiversary was between Kurt Angle, Samoa Joe, A.J. Styles, Christian Cage, and Chris Harris over the vacant TNA World Heavyweight Championship. The previous month at Sacrifice, Kurt Angle defeated Christian and Sting in a Three Way match to "win" the TNA World Heavyweight Championship. Earlier that day, the National Wrestling Alliance served all business relationships with Total Nonstop Action Wrestling, regaining control of the NWA World Heavyweight Championship and the NWA World Tag Team Championship, thus stripping Cage of the World title and Team 3D of the Tag titles. This forced TNA to create the TNA World Heavyweight Championship and TNA World Tag Team Championship. Four days after on Impact!, Management Director Jim Cornette stripped Angle of the TNA World title due to a controversial ending of the Three Way match at Sacrifice. Cornette then announced that over the proceeding five weeks, there would be five qualifying match for the King of the Mountain match at Slammiversary. Later that night, Angle defeated Rhino to become the first entrant in the match. The following week on Impact!, Samoa Joe faced off against Sting to determine the next entrant for the King of the Mountain match. Towards the end of the match, Christopher Daniels came out and hit Sting with a baseball bat, which led to Joe executing a Samoan Drop for the pinfall victory.
