Thu Riya (Burmese: သူရိယ) was born as Thura Linn on 6 May 1989 to ethnic Myanmar (Burma) is a Burmese actor, commercial model, also occupied as a TV presenter at several TV stations and sometimes a comedian with the Burmese traditional dance troupe. He began his main character acting debut in the video A Mi Mae Thar (Motherless son) gained recognition and known by the audiences. He acted over 40 films as a main character in his acting career. During 2016-2017, he acts in TV series of Ma Nay Ka Phit Thi (It was on Yesterday) and Pyin Salat Ywar (Magic Village) produced by MRTV 4’s Taurus Production.[2] [3]
Career

[edit]Thu Riya is the eldest son of U Kyi Linn and Daw Cho Cho Mar, proprietors of Sein Bayek traditional medicine house. He is the eldest of his siblings and has two younger brothers, Aung Thu Linn and Chan Pyae Pyae Linn and a younger sister Khin Thitsar Kyi.[4]
Thu Riya started his schooling in Basic Education High School No. 3 Bago, Bago Region, till the 9th grade and moved to Yangon to attend Basic Education High School No. 1 Dagon in where he was matriculated. He attended Institute of Myanmar Traditional Medicine in Mandalay from 2005 to 2008 and earned Dip.T.Med, a diploma in Myanmar Traditional Medicine, in 2008.
In 1997 Thu Riya first appeared in the TV in the advertisement of his parents’ Sein Bayek traditional medicine house. Since his appearance in the TV, he became very much interested and passionate in films and arts. Thu Riya began his acting career as a child and performed in many Myanmar history films. Due to his schooling, he was not able to contribute fully in the acting career, but occasionally he participated in many entertainments of school concerts and educational film.
Thu Riya matriculated in 2004 and to be able to help his parents’ Myanmar traditional medicine business in Mandalay, Myanmar, he was enrolled at the Institute of Myanmar Traditional Medicine (Batch 30) in 2005. There, at the Institute of Traditional Medicine, he performed in theatrical plays and composed songs for the plays together with his friends. He also composed a song honoring the students and teachers of Batch 30 of the institute.
He earned Dip.T.Med, a diploma in Myanmar Traditional Medicine in 2008 and then relocated to Yangon to help out in his parents’ family business. [5]
From 2009 to Present
[edit]In 2009, permission was granted by his parents to enter into the field of acting, which he is his hobby and the focus of his life, since his childhood.
As singing is also his hobby, Thu Riya started singing Myanmar Thingyan (water festival) songs in Myawaddy TV. Later on he occupied as a TV presenter at several TV stations.[6]
Thu Riya made his acting debut with a supporting role in 2010 in Myawaddy TV’s short films. Through these experiences, he got connected with Myanmar films enterprise and performed as supporting character in many films and soon gained recognition and known by the audiences. He also got to act in some music videos.
In 2011, he went into a 5 years contract with Mahogany film production as a main character, changing his name from Thura Linn to Thu Riya. He began his main character acting debut in the video A Mi Mae Thar ( Motherless son). In 2013, Thu Riya had some dispute with Mahogany film and due to the very heavy indemnity, Thu Riya was deterred from making any films or performing any acts with any other productions during the contract period with Mahogany film production. Unfortunately, at that time, he was also not in good terms with his family and had disappeared from his home and the film industry for a period of two years. As the contract with Mahogany Film had already expired in 2015 and the relationship with his family became healthy again , Thu Riya had chances to commence his acting career. He took part again in the film industry in the supporting role.
2016 was a significant turning point for Thu Riya in his career. In 2016, he was successful in videos with Aung Thiri Production, and received back the support and acceptance of the audiences. He featured in a Film (Big Screen Movies) Facebook Ywar (Facebook Village) and was well accepted by the viewers. The film was a big success , with full house in the movie theatres.
During 2016-2017 Thu Riya had chances to cast in TV series of MRTV-4, one of the Myanmar national TV stations. He gained more praise from the audiences from his acts in TV series of Ma Nay Ka Phit Thi ( It was on Yesterday) and Thu Riya's Series. "Pyin Salat Ywar (Magic Village)". In 2017, Thu Riya underwent plastic surgery at DRK Beauty Clinic, Bangkok, Thailand, to reduce fat from his cheeks. His looks changed from puffy cheeks to V-shaped.[9]
In 2018, the video markets crumpled, so he then again shifted back to the film industry. Currently, he has continued making films and these films will be released in 2019.
At present, he is a Freelance Actor and also professes as a indigenous doctor. His Traditional Medicine produced from Thu Riya Myanmar Traditional Medicine, an enterprise owned by him, will soon emerge in the market.[10][11]
Humanitarian Works
[edit]Thu Riya has been involved in many humanitarian works during his career. In August 2015, when Myanmar encountered with heavy rains and flood, he accompanied and associated with the Saytana Kann Let Myar community group lead by Directors Nyi Nyi Aung and Thargyi. They went to donate medicines, food and rice in Nyaungdone, a town struck with natural disasters.[12]
When shooting Pyin Salat Ywar ( (Magic Village) in 2017, they had to film at a village named Set Set Yo and stayed there for four months. Thu Riya donated books and traditional medicines from his parent’s Sein Bayek traditional medicine house for the children from the village and fed the whole village with local food (Motehingar).[13]

[edit]Thu Riya is a quiet person, simple, and outspoken and always true to his individuality. He loves reading books, or browsing the internet with the computer and loves to be on his phone whenever he is free. His parents regard him as a very quiet person. Normally, he does not talk much, but once he starts there is no end to it, and talks like a chatter box.[14]
Hobby & Interest
[edit]Thu Riya has interested in art since young, and he also interested in reading, acquiring general knowledge & loved in travelling
His favorite sport is playing badminton, and he likes to play with his friends occasionally.
