The Celebration of the 75th Anniversary of the Great Victory in Saint Petersburg — a range of festive events that were held in Saint Petersburg due to the 75th Anniversary of the Great Victory in The Great Patriotic War 1941-1944.
In 2020 The 75th Anniversary of the Great Victory is celebrated all around the globe. Russia is one of the countries that were mostly involved in the celebration, especially her biggest cities, Saint Petersburg being among them.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, most of the events were reorganised or postponed.
According to The Saint Petersburg City Administration, The Social Politics Committee developed a plan that consisted of more than 150 events concerning the celebration of The Great Victory. The plan.[1] was approved by the Governor of Saint Petersburg Alexander Beglov on the 18th of August, 2019. At the beginning of 2020, the plan was adjusted and approved again on the 31st of March, 2020.
The main events listed in the plan:
• Torch Flaming on The Rostral Columns
• Online Flash Mob «#75thYearsVictoryPoems»
Usually this worldwide action is held outside, but in 2020 people, as they couldn't gather on streets, put photographs of their ancestors on balconies and windows. The action was realised online: anyone who wanted to participate needed to post a photo on their social media and use a hashtag #immortalregimentathome[2]
• Festive Firework from the Peter and Paul Fortress
• All-Russian action «Ribbon of Saint-George»
Every year the most important part of the celebration is The Air-Force Parade on the 9th of May. In 2020 The Victory Parade was postponed to the 24th of June. The date was chosen for a reason: the first Victory Parade held by the order of Joseph Stalin on The Red Square was also on 24th of June.
The Parade started at 10 a.m. on The Palace Square. 4,5 thousand of militaries and about 100 pieces of military equipment, including the tank T-72B3, missile system «Iskander-M» and the helicopter Mil Mi-26, were involved in the ceremony.[3]
