CAEplex is a computer-aided engineering web-based platform which was designed from scratch to run finite-element analysis models[1] on cloud computing directly from a web browser. It was developed by the Argentinian company Seamplex and launched on February 2017.[2] It received a prize from the Bank of the Argentine Nation to support startups[3][4] as it is the only platform on its kind in Latin America.[5][6]

CAEplex is fully integrated into the cloud-based CAD platform Onshape.[7]

Problems

[edit]

The platform allows users to solve thermo-mechanical problems directly from the browser. In particular,

  1. Heat conduction with temperature, heat flux and/or convective boundary conditions,
  2. Mechanical elasticity optionally taking into consideration temperature distribution from
    1. a heat conduction problem (i),
    2. an algebraic expression of x, y and z, or
    3. interpolated point-wise scattered data.

Description

[edit]

Technically speaking, it is a web front end for a number of mechanical engineering back end tools running on an UNIX server.[8] In particular, it uses the following technical back-ends:

All of these back-ends are free and open source software. The FEA back-end Fino was also developed by Seamplex from scratch.

Formats

[edit]

CAEplex can process the following formats for geometry file

Additionally, geometries created in Onshape can be used by directly opening a new tab in the document window as CAEplex is a fully-integrated app.[9]

Besides post-processing the results directly in the browser using an ad-hoc WebGL interface (using the X3DOM JavaScript library[10]), they can be downloaded in VTK format.
