Dr Pattanathu Rahman FRSA is Programme Leader for Food Science & Biotechnology. His research in bio-fermentation of bio-surfactants has received support from the Bioscience for Business Knowledge Transfer Network (KTN). This work led to the creation of the spinout company called TeeGene Biotech Ltd. based at the Wilton Centre near Middlesbrough, a runner-up at IChemE – Best Business Start-up award 2015 and IBLF award 2015. He is a recipient of the TU Enterprise Project of the Year – 2016 award and a Fellow of the Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce (RSA). He has been part of a Royal Society-Indian DST funded research network development project, running a Biofuel workshop in India. He is a Visiting Professor at SOA University (India). He was a co-investigator for the €1.2 M EU Life III Environment BioReGen Project (2004-2010) (www.bioregen.eu) as a bioremediation project using energy plants in brownfield restoration. He was Co-Investigator of the DEFRA Waste & Resources R&D Programme-funded Biorecycling Project (2004-2006, £316K). He has secured collaborative research, business interaction and proof of concept funding from BBSRC NIBBs such as the CBMNet, Phyconet, HVCfP and Metals in Biology networks.
