JG Athletica

JG Athletica (or Junior Gear) is a young Canadian performance apparel and athletic wear boutique. It currently sells men's and women's gear with hopes to expand further. Their present shop is located in Toronto,Ontario with a shop that can also be found online.[1] The shop is currently run by founder, Ricardo Young.

History

In 2006, Ricardo Young founded the JG company. Junior Gear's primary brand logo consists of the simple letters J and G, which are carefully embroidered on all apparel. JG's brand goal is to assist people, young and old, in looking good and feeling better about themselves. ^[1] The idea of JG Athletica came about during Ricardo's trip to the island of Jamaica when he became inspired by the beautiful environment which also translated into vibrancy of the locals clothing. ^[2]

Though the company began with an online shop in 2006, Junior Gear expanded to open up one local Scarborough retail store. In the summer of 2015, Junior Gear opened for business with their first location at Parkway Mall^[3]. Parkway mall is a community scaled mall, geared more towards neighbourhood level stores than other malls such as Scarborough Town Centre or Toronto Eaton Centre. The grand opening of JG Athletica was boosted with promotional airplay on local Toronto radio station, Flow 935^[4] and an in person meet and greet with Miss Teenage Ontario^[5], the "JG Girl". Popularity of the store was also boosted with a giveaway which gave customers a chance to win Katy Perry concert tickets by draw. On June 6th, 2015, JG Athletica's first retail store opened.

Concept

Junior Gear Athletica's catalog includes performance and active wear for men and women of all ages. Items include: Fleece sweatshirts, cotton tanks, cotton t-shirts, unisex sweatpants, hats, sports shorts, track jackets and more. JG is an athletic wear brand in the same competitive market as the likes of Nike [2], Adidas [3], Reebok [4], etc.
