Kochapu (also spelled as koca bapa or koca bapu) family name, belongs to Indo- Iranian community concentrated in coastal Uttar Kannada (Belonging to Nawayaths community).

Kochapu Family is basically located in Uttar Kannada region.

Every nawaythi family has a surname ending with'Irani'.Mostly all Nawayaths are Muslims, The nawayaths speak "Nawayathi" which is a mixture of Parsi and Urdu.Today most of the Nawayaths are found in Bangalore and Mysore , Karnataka .
