Canine Pancreatic Elastase 1 new article content ... The fecal canine pancreatic Elastase 1 is a species specific enzyme immunoassay (ELISA) that allows the diagnosis of exocrine pancreatic insufficiency in dogs(references)Fecal elastase 1 is produced in the pancreatic acinar cells,it survives intestinal transit unchanged and is uneffected by intestinal inflammation.(references von 360). The test is species specific, which means it is uneffected by pancreatic enzyme replacement therapy. Moreover, the dog does not need to be put on a 12 hour starvation period. (refrences) Canine Elastase 1 has a high sensitivity of 95% and high specificity of 92%, and is therefore used as an effective screening tool for EPI in dogs. (references). There is no need of an isotopic laboratory to conduct the test.
