Keith A. Markus teaches quantitative methods in the psychology department of John Jay College of Criminal Justice. He does research in the areas of caual modeling and causal inference, test validity, statistical inference, discourse analysis, deception detection, and partner violence. His research on causal modeling revolves around causal pluralism, the view that researchers should consider different kinds of causation and select the type most appropriate to the substance of their research and the methodologists should explore multiple types of causation rather than seeking to determine one universal definition of causation a priori. More generally, his research on model interpretation treats causal models as a formal language to which principles and methods of semantics apply. He is currently serving as associate editor of Psychological Methods and Structural Equation Modeling.
