Glory Nights was an alternative/rock/emo band. The members, who were first friends, originated from all over the map but came together and formed the band in Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada.[1] "The band members agreed that nothing moves a person like great melody, and this is what they think about when writing"[2]. Along with melody Glory Nights used catchy hooks and a simplistic style to create “pretty” meets “rock” genre.[3]
History
[edit]The five band members all previously played in other groups before coming together in January of 2004 to form Glory Nights. They immediately got to work, recording in the studio with acclaimed producer and engineer Travis Saunders (who also worked with bands such as Stutterfly and Chandelle). The debut independent EP was released in February of 2005 entitled We’re All The Same Down Here[4]. The sound was thought to resemble a mix of Jimmy Eat World, Taking Back Sunday, and Underoath.[5] The EP did exceptionally well, staying within the top 40 sales chart on SmartPunk and "holding one of the highest play counts for independent bands in Canada on sites such as PureVolume and MySpace"[6].
During the summer of 2005, Glory Nights played at the Vans Warped Tour in Vancouver after winning a spot in the Ernie Ball Battle of the Bands. In 2006, they were able to tour most of Canada and part of the United States, stopping in Edmonton to play the Harvestmoon Festival[7].
On June 28th , 2007, the band posted a blog on MySpace stating that they had split. After returning home from a round-trip tour to Ontario, all the members collectively decided that they had too many things going on in their lives, and were only cheating themselves and the fans to continue Glory Nights.[8].
Twilight Records (Tokyo, Japan), re-released We’re All The Same Down Here with five new songs on September 19, 2007[9]. On October 30, 2007 British Records (Illinois), reissued We’re All The Same Down Here on iTunes. This was available to the U.S. and Canada[10].
Where Are They Now?
[edit]Although Glory Nights broke up in 2007, most of the members in the band are still involved in the music business. Adam Potter, (guitar) is now involved with a new band called Moments, formed in 2008. Joshua Ferguson was the bass player for the band Greeley Estates, when they released their 2007 album, Far From the Lies. He then left that band for personal reasons. Calen Stuckel has returned to being the drummer for his past Edmonton-based band Transit Radio. Phil Endecott and Thad Combs are not currently in any bands.[11]
