Wickenrode is a village in Hesse (Germany) and part of the municipality Helsa.
Geography
[edit]The Village ist located 18km east of Kassel in the woods of the Kaufunger Wald.
History
[edit]The first documentary was in 1293 in a deed of donation of the Monastary Kaufungen to the Knight Burghardus Cygenberc.
Since the administrative reform of 1972 Wickenrode belongs to the municipality Helsa.

[edit]In the Coat of Arms of Helsa Wickenrode is represented by the symbol under the bell. The Coat of Arms bears Helsa since administrative reform of 1972.
Saga
[edit]Several sagas are told in Wickenrode associated with the Brothers Grimm fairy-tale figure Mother Hulda.
On the 6. december the day of Nikolaus she is coming down from her mountain (Hoher Meißner) to support the poor and helpless. So has been told that she showed Essias Gunkel a resident of Wickenrode the brown coal in the Hirschberg moutain to survive the rough winter. [1]
Another saga tells she is comming on the 1. May to the Hirschberg to look across the Valley. On such a day Mother Hulda it is told that she has cured a girl from the curse of a evil witch.[2]
