I am an instructor of writing and communication, and I want to use Wikipedia in my teaching to help students develop information literacy, awareness of public audiences, and an appreciation for research in all forms. I find that students often have been taught to fear or avoid Wikipedia especially in academic work, but my hope is that my course will assist students in thinking more critically about information access and the ways that Wikipedia offers a public good when the information is credible and well sourced. I also hope that students come to see themselves as researchers with agency to inform themselves and the people around them.

My courses will primarily focus on Kentucky's histories and communities as way to get students to think about their own context and learn about their community.
