Treehugger.com
[edit]Treehugger.com is a weblog created in 2004 to promote sustainability for the masses. Roughly 15 new posts are added daily, encouraging readers to incorporate green practices into their daily lives, but also providing the options for people to choose what makes sense. Treehugger.com is run virtually, with a staff of 18 writers from around the world and additional guest writers. The founder, Graham Hill, a designer for Exception Lab, Inc. manages and backs Treehugger.com. In total, there are 76 categories devoted to design, fashion, products, events, media and all things green. Treehugger also provides information for readers on products that may be doing more harm than good, or at least have no environmental benefit though they claim to.
A short summary of each new article is updated on the main page. When readers click on the link they are taken to an individual article page where they get more information on the topic. In addition, readers are also provided with a link to the actual media article or website that generated the story. Readers are allowed to submit comments and respond to each other based on the post topic. Treehugger also encourages reader involvement through surveys, contests and through submission of green events in their particular city. Readers can submit tips to the website.
Since launching Treehugger in 2004, several new ventures have taken off. TreehuggerTV, which reports on the latest green happenings around the US. Hugg.com allows readers to generate the news and vote on the most popular posts.

TreehuggerTV
[edit]Begun on XXXX, TreehuggerTV is a weekly videoblog produced by Treehugger.com. Some of the videos are produced in house by TreehuggerTV, but guest videographers are also allowed to submit videos. TreehuggerTV has also partnered with the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) to host sustainability themed videos created by NRDC. Videos can also be viewed through itunes podcast.
Hugg.com
[edit]Hugg.com is an off-shoot of Treehugger.com, where readers can register and then submit articles or videos for posting. The site was originally based off of a similar site, Digg.com. Readers are also allowed to vote “Hugg” articles that they find particularly interesting or note-worthy. Articles that receive high “Hugg” ratings are sometimes further researched and used on Treehugger.com. Articles are displayed both as recent “front page” posts and posts that have received the highest Hugg ratings. Posts that with the highest number of Huggs are posted on the main page.
