The “home of scholarly publishing”, ingentaconnect.com hosts the content of over 270 publishers and provides services for publishers, researchers and librarians.
IngentaConnect is a multi content search, browse, read, annotate hosted platform, and operates like a Cloud Computing or Software as a Service (SaaS) model.
IngentaConnect is a solution for both large publishers (who have multiple platforms for their content) and a starting point for smaller publishers.
History:
[edit]Founded in 1998, the company provides technology and associated services to the publishing and information industries. Its software enables scholarly, financial and business publishers to make content available to online institutional and individual end users, under a variety of business models. In 2007, Ingenta and Publishers Communication Group (PCG) merged with VISTA, to form a new company, Publishing Technology plc, which is listed on the London Stock Exchange's Alternative Investment Market (LSE: PTO.L).
In 2010, IngentaConnect announced a wide range of enhancements including Summon searching, social bookmarking, WorldPay e-commerce, Shibboleth integration and forthcoming COUNTER 3 compliance. Additionally, a mobile web version of the platform; that includes full-text search, social bookmarking, as well as managing subject based alerting via RSS and email and article by article publishing for "ahead of print" content.
