Emma was a severe extratropical cyclone that moved across much of Central Europe during the early part of March 2008.
Emma was a severe extratropical cyclone which passed through several mainly Central European countries, most devastatingly on Saturday March 1, 2008, killing at least twelve people in Austria, Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic.[2] Wind speeds reached up to 166 km/h (103 mph) in Austria, and up to 180 km/h (112 mph) elsewhere.[3] Major infrastructure disruptions and some injuries were also reported in Belgium, France, Switzerland, and the Netherlands.[4]

[edit]A Lufthansa Airbus A320 was attempting to land at Hamburg Airport in Germany when a gust of wind nearly pushed the aircraft into the ground. The pilots successfully executed a go around and landed at the airport.[5]
