Neubrandenburg/St. Marien, Mecklenburg Strelitz, 15 January 1815; m. 1st, Kraase, Mecklenburg Schwerin, 11 May 1838 - Maria Henrika Ernestine Peters, b. Gross Kraase, Mecklenburg Schwerin, 11 December 1806, da. of Johann Joachim Peters & Ann Maria Bockholt, she d. Kraase, Mecklenburg Schwerin, 17 January 1845; He m. 2d in Prussia, unknown date--Frederika Mary ______(3), b. Mecklenburg Schwerin, August 1824; she d. Delano, Minnesota 25 November 1887--he d. Delano, Minnesota 24 January 1895 from stomach trouble. From about 1850 Mecklenburg was linked to Hamburg by a railroad. Friederick, his wife Frederika and son sailed from Hamburg 15 November 1851 on board the Bark "Miles" (Capt. T.T. Ariansen)Superscript text1, arriving in New York 13 January 1852. They moved to the Minnesota Territory in October 1855 where they lived at Fort Snelling for one year before going to Franklin Township in October 1856. They appear on the Territorial Census of 1857 as resident in "Township 25 in the County of Wright." They homesteaded about four miles west of Delano where they filed a land claim in October 1860. Friederick was a member of Company E, 8th Minnesota Volunteer Infantry from Franklin Township, which fought against the Sioux in the battle near Morton and Redwood Falls (Birch Coulee) on 2 September 1862

Generation II: 4. Johann Joachim Friedrich SCHWERIN (Frederick), b. Gross Kraase, Mecklenburg, 15 October 1839; m. Wright Co., MN 16 March 1864--Julia Anna Samsell, b. Bavaria, Germany, 9 March 1845 (1848?), da. of Jacob Samsell & Margaret Ullrich, she d. Delano MN 20 March 1926 of apoplexy and chronic myocarditis after suffering a stroke the year before; he was accidentally killed, Montrose, MN 23 February 1883 by a passenger train.
At the age of 5 Julia arrived with her parents in New York on the ship "Edwina" from Le Havre, 20 April 1853. Frederick homesteaded the 80 acres in the W 1/2 of the SE 1/4 of section 32 in Township 119 Range 25. During the Civil War he was drafted 20 September 1864 and served less than nine months as a Private in Company "D", 2nd Regiment of the Minnesota Infantry Volunteers, being discharged 11 June 1865.

Henry was attending business school in Minneapolis when his father was killed. Thus, not yet 18, he was called home to help care for his younger siblings, and the dream of a business career was dashed. In the end he spent his life as a farmer. They farmed at Montrose, near Delano, Minnesota, until 1911, then moved to a farm at Echo, Minnesota where they remained until their deaths.

George farmed near Delano until they moved to Minneapolis. There he was employed as a laborer in a steel foundry.
