Freak Out: Extreme Freeride, often referred to as just Freakout, is a sports video game developed by ColdWood Interactive and published by JoWooD Entertainment for the PS2, first released in Europe on March 30, 2007. The player controls one of six playable skiers from a third-person perspective using a combination of buttons to jump and perform tricks, and has to complete challenges to unlock new mountains and equipment.
Freak Out was announced on August 16, 2006 and developed over 7 months. It received generally favorable reviews from critics. It was also released to the PSP and PC in May of the same year.[5]
Gameplay
[edit]In Freak Out: Extreme Freeride, the player can control six different playable skiers. Each player has his own "special tricks". The player must complete chalanges to unlock new mountains and equipment. While winning challanges, the player also increases his tricks, balance, and endurace skills.
Multiplayer
[edit]There are two different multiplayer modes: "Split screen" and "Network". In the "Splitscreen" mode (which is not included in the PSP version), two players can race, either with keyboard or joypad. However, in the "Network" mode, up to eight players can play together online. An online highscore was also included, until the official Freak Out: Extreme Freeride website was removed.
Characters and mountains
[edit]Players may initially choose from six skiing characters: three male and three female. Each character is of different age, comes from a different country and has his special tricks.

Freak Out: Extreme Freeride received generally favorable reviews from critics. Download Free-Games gave the game a 7.5 out of 10, praising its presentation, goals and missions, realistic and large environments and online high scores, criticized its small number of mountains, limited number of tricks, and lacking character customization.[16] Josh Higley of Honest Gamers said "Freak Out would make a great handheld game, and if you carry a laptop with you and find yourself experiencing periodic boredom while waiting for the bus, then give it a try. For the rest of us who want something to play long into the night, it'd be better to look elsewhere".[17] Metaboli called it an extreme alpine skiing simulator letting the player get off that beaten snow track and do what ever you want, that can not be compared to "those starter slopes and the dreaded Snow-plough".[18]
