Bangladesh agricultural development corporation (BADC) is the successor of east Pakistan agricultural development corporation which was established in 1961.[1] The primary function of BADC are: to make suitable arrangement throughout Bangladesh for the production, procurement, transport, storage and distribution of essential agricultural inputs such as seeds, fertilizers and providing irrigation facilities through utilization of surface and ground water to farmers. Professional from different discipline like agriculture, agricultural engineering, agricultural economics, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, water resources engineering, economics and management are work together in BADC. At present (2013) 25 nos. of development project are under implementation by BADC.
The projects for providing irrigation water are: 1. Survey and Monitoring Project for development of minor irrigation 2. Greater Faridpur minor irrigation development project 3. Pabna-Natore-Sirajganj minor irrigation development project 4. Greater Dhaka zilla irrigation area development project 5. Project for activating of inoperable deep tube wells of BADC for irrigation 6. Project for Enhancement of Agricultural Production and Poverty Alleviation by Introducing Force Mode Tube-well Irrigation 7. Innovative Uses of Surface Water Project 8. Greater Khulna-Jessore-Kushtia Integrated Agricultural Development Project 9. Greater Mymensingh-Tangail Integrated Agricultural Development Project 10. Greater Bogra Rangpur Dinajpur Integrated Area Development Project 11. Expansion of Irrigation through utilization of Surface Water by Double Lifting 12. Ashugonj Polash Agro Irrigation Project 13. Mujibnagar Integrated Agricultural Development Project 14. Construction of Rubber Dams in Small and Medium Rivers for increasing food production project.(BADC Part) 15. Pirojpur-Gopalganj-Bagerhat Integrated Agricultural Development Project(BADC Part) 16. Chittagong Hill Tracts Integrated Agricultural Development Project
Many small area based programs for irrigation area development under revenue budget are ongoing.
The projects for production and supply seeds are: 1. Pulse and Oil Seed Project 2. Tuber Crops Development Project(BADC Part) 3. Improved and Quality Seed Production of Rice, Wheat and Maize Project (BADC Part) 4. Integrated Quality Horticulture Development Project(BADC Part) 5. Development and Multiplication of Agricultural Seed 6. Private Seed Sector Development Project 7. Enhancing Quality Seed Supply Project 8. Establishment of Integrated Seed Cold Storage at Kurigram Project 9. Establishment of a Seed Multiplication Farm in the Southern (Barisal Patuakhali) Region Project
So BADC plays an important role ensuring food security of Bangladesh.
