The Larry Fitzgerald Award or, "The Fitzy", was created in 2006 as a way for the everyday fan of College Football to voice their opinion and crown the nation's Most Outstanding Player. Originally named "The Ken Dorsey Award", the name of the award was changed to "The Larry Fitzgerald Award" to better promote the image of the award.
Each year ballots are mailed out at the end of November to College Football's biggest fans and are returned before the bowl season begins. Players receive 3 points for a 1st place vote, 2 for a 2nd place, a 1 for a 3rd place vote. The player receiving the most points is given the award. The winner of the award is announced at an annual ceremony during Halftime of the BCS National Championship Game.
