Lieutenant Matthew Rooney, USCG (born November 28, 1978) is the XX Commanding Officer of USCGC MAUI (WPB 1304). LT Rooney is known for serving as one of only six USCG Patrol Boat Commanding Officer's in the Central and Northern Arabian Gulf. Rooney is scheduled for a change of command on 22 May, 2010, when LT Dion K. Nicely relieves as Commanding Officer of USCGC MAUI.
Background
[edit]Rooney was born in Meriden, CT, the son of former US Navy Sailor John Rooney and Mrs. Judith Rooney. Excelling in academics at Lymann Hall High School, Rooney applied for and was accepted to the prestigious Massachusetts Maritime Academy in 1998.
Assignments
[edit]Upon graduation from Massachusetts Maritime Academy in 2001, Rooney reported to USCGC SPENCER (WMEC-905) in Boston, MA. Completing XX patrols in (area) and (area), Rooney departed USCGC SPENCER in 2004 for a follow-on assignment aboard USCGC MONHEGAN (WPB 1305) and USCGC ATTU (WPB 1317) upon USCGC MONHEGAN's decommissioning. Rooney transferred to CG Atlantic Area in Portsmouth, VA in 20XX, where he served as XXXXXXXXXX. Upon successful screening by the Junior Command Afloat Screening Panel, Rooney was selected as the XX Commanding Officer of USCGC MAUI (WPB 1304), homeported in Manama Bahrain.
