Overview

[edit]

As an initiative of the Australian Government and in partnership with business and industry, the Australian Trade College North Brisbane was founded in 2006 as part of the Australian Technical Colleges Program.

By 2007 the College began operating as an Independent Senior Secondary College and Registered Training Organisation and welcomed its first cohort of Year 11 students who signed up for their Australian School-based Apprenticeships (Certificate III in their trade), while studying for their Senior Qualification (Queensland Certificate of Education).

At the end of 2008, 130 of these students became our first graduates, with some of them going on to achieve their full trade qualification as early as mid-year 2009. By the end of 2009, the College was named as one of five of the 24 Australian Technical Colleges established under the ATC Program, to be granted full independent operational status by the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations.

It is now 2010. The College has earned the respect of many in the education and training sector and now boasts a scope of registration to deliver training for 55 courses. Details of the various services on offer are provided on the website in the following categories:

  • Australian School-based Apprenticeships (enrolled at the College as a full time senior secondary student)
  • Australian Apprentices (providing off-the-job trade training for them)
  • International Programs (study in Australia and study in student's own Country)
  • Employers (providing ASbAs for their business)
  • Learning and Development (delivery of accredited training courses to the general public)

The College campus is located on a magnificent site at Scarborough, featuring industry-standard trade facilities in Commercial Cookery, Building and Construction, Automotive, Metal and Engineering and Electrotechnology.

Teacher/Trainers

Our teachers/trainers are fully qualified and industry-current in the trade areas in which they teach. They incorporate relevant course content, designed to provide students with the most realistic skills development in their trade areas.

The curriculum is delivered by registered teachers and is compliant with Queensland Studies Authority.
