Bio
[edit]About Me
[edit]My name is Kristina and some activities that I am interested in is volleyball, snowboarding, and reading. Currently, one of my favorite books is The Choice by Nicholas Sparks. I am a fan of Nicholas Sparks work and also like that many of his books have been turned into movies[1]. Another interesting fact about me is that my family is from Latvia and my first language is Russian.
My Wikipedia Interests
[edit]My main reason for my interest in Wikipedia is for school work and college. Many people, even if they don't have an account, use Wikipedia. My main reason for using it will be to acquire information that I would be needing for assignments or papers for college currently or in the future. I think Wikipedia will be a great help for my future classes and improve the quality and understanding of my writing.
Article evaluation
[edit]Snowboarding and skiing season are coming up soon, so I wanted to know more about how our reflexes work because snowboarding and skiing has a lot to do with reflexes when active in the sport. While researching, I came up on an article about a different type of reflex which I hadn’t heard of before. I visited the Tonic Vibration Reflex article on Wikipedia and found three aspects of it worth commenting on: there are no references, there is lack of information on the topic, and the article is focused more on how to fix it rather than what it is and what can cause it.
References
[edit]While looking through Wikipedia, I noticed that almost all articles have at least 2 references at the bottom of the page to show proof of their information and research. When I came across this article, the information sounded real and I believed it, until I scrolled down. References would have helped me broaden my research and learn more about these types of reflexes. Even so, there are no references at the bottom of this article, and it makes it hard for me to believe the information and its credibility.
Lack of information
[edit]Most articles have whole paragraphs and very detailed information about the topic and that is what I would have expected for this article. However, when I opened it, the whole article was only 7 sentences long. Even if the information was correct, anyone would be suspicious of the facts because there almost no information about it. I think they should have at least added some more facts or links to lengthen my search and information that I got.
Wrong information
[edit]Before this, I had no idea that tonic vibration reflexes are a thing, and I was eager to learn more about it. Nonetheless, when I started reading the article, most of the information was how to treat it and what kind of vibration to use to get rid of it. This was not helpful because I wanted to know more about what it is, what kind of reflex it was, and why it happens.
Summary
[edit]Even though this article was last edited in January 2021, which is not long ago, I was still very skeptical of this article and the information. If they had added a couple of references to back up their research, I probably would have found this article useful. I did, however, find the information about how to treat useful but how useful is it if you don't know what tonic vibration reflexes are. Instead of increasing my knowledge of tonic vibration reflexes, it made me more confused and question the information that I had read.
