I am an artist that lives in Washington state. I love to draw fictional characters and stories that friends and I create. I plan to study architecture and graduate with the proper degrees to achieve it. My favorite food is Korean beef bulgogi, which I find is best served with a bowl of rice. Beef bulgogi contains pear in the sauce giving it a unique semi sweet flavor.

Thesis

When I was little I watched a show called Octonauts and found fascination with the Mudskippers fish for its funny features. I would go further to research it on my own time giving me some context for my choice in the Mudskippers Wikipedia article. I would like to see the Mudskippers article to be more accurate and reliable, and with that in mind I found three aspects worth mentioning: its lack of citations, its lack of information, and the outdated citations.

Lack of Citations

In this article under the behavior section it provides some questionable information and in this entire section there are no citations. There’s actually a small note that looks like a citation that says “citations needed”. This makes me question where they got the information from and if I can trust the authenticity of this article. There is also a citation needed in the summary in the beginning as shown with the “citations needed” comment. Maybe showing that there was a citation but was removed.

Lack of information

I enjoy Mudskippers they are a hilarious and delightful looking fish but despite their funny appearance these tiny land fish are highly territorial and competitive. In this Mudskippers article section behavior, the article covers a little bit of the mating process for Mudskippers and their ability to burrow. It however does not cover the bird like intrasexual competition that Mudskippers display. The pectoral fin with two segments is used to make the Mudskipper more appealing to females when they engage in a jumping motion thats a mechanism to get the females attention. This fin also has bright blue dots to make the fish more visible. This interesting behavior that is not covered in this article is a lot like moose butting antlers to fight for a female. But instead this is Mudskippers ramming each others faces together to show dominance.

Outdated Citations

When clicking on the citations and reading through the articles I found references dating back to 1969 and the earliest citation being 2023. The second citation on the page is actually from 2018 connected to a dead link. This citation is also not actually listed on the article itself. Although most of these outdated citations are from books they are still unreliable because of their old age. There’s even an article cited dating at 1998 that hasn’t been edited since. The age becomes a problem especially when talking about animals and not well known creatures because discovery’s about even common animals are still being found. So looking at a very old article on a creature is good for grasping the concept of the creature but not so much details that would be harder to find.

Conclusion

Overall I would call this page unfinished and unreliable. The information it provides varies, it has broken broad coverage in the behaviors of the Mudskippers but had more specific scientific coverage of the way the Mudskipper breathes and its immunity to certain toxins.This helps this portion of the article but no coverage of the territorial aspects of the Mudskippers.The outdated links only further the unreliability of this article making the little good information questionable. I think more information included and better citations would help make the Mudskippers Wikipedia article more reliable and factually accurate.
