Artist Kavita Nayar visual was born in 1957 in Amritsar(Punjab),but her family shifted to Calcutta where her father owned a business. she received her BFA graphic art from Santiniketan, West Bengal and MFA painting from College of Art, Delhi. "Awarded French Govt. scholarship to work in lithography & etchings at Cite International Des Arts & Ecole des Beaux Arts in 1985-86. In 1990 she worked under a master printer in Serigraphy in Luxembourg with creative Fund fellowship. In 1996 she went to Ruskin School of Art, Oxford (England) as a senior fellow with the fellowship of Charles Wallace India Trust".
Biography
[edit]As an artist,she devoted four decades of her life,passionately innovating new methods of self expression. The journey of self discovery is evident in her artworks. She works in various mediums with equal ease,be it oil or acrylic on canvas,pastels, lithography, silkscreen, etching, collage etc. Her commitment towards visual art practice is not just evident in her own paintings or prints but also towards the purpose of educating others about art. she has contributed to fine art and design institutions as visiting faculty of collage of art, South Delhi polytechnic, NIFT delhi, Mahatma Gandhi Institute in Mauritius and visiting professor at department of fine arts in Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi. Being a recipient of several travel grants,scholarships where she learnt beyond techniques and mediums in visual arts,she till now channelizes her energy in creatively delivering those experiences to the fine art students by conducting workshops.She believes in working hard with determined and dedicated mind, heart and soul. As an artist, she has carved a niche for herself as well as motivated many young creative minds by going an extra mile through establishing Kala Sakshi Memorial Trust] in 2009.

[edit]Her intention of initiating the trust lies in her deep thinking process,She has always sought a purpose in her life and that purpose is to help young promising art students by providing scholarships and mentoring them through workshop. It is commendable to see an artist reviving her daughter's memories,dealing constructively with her death to selflessly benefiting other youngsters,so that those minds can focus and develop a whole new perspective in the field of fine arts.It is perhaps the first time in India, in artistic field that a freelance artist is trying to help young art students generation in meeting the financial needs during their formative years in the creative journey as well as mentoring them through workshops in which they interact with eminent art personalities, meet gallerists, present their works. Her idea is not just supporting them through money but inspire them, build up confidence, develop a new perspective. Kavita Nayar is a multifaceted personality, she has learnt kathakali dance from Guru Kelu Nair and Padmashri Sadanam Balakrishnan which she utilized in expressing her feelings through production of a film called FURY and Pathos based upon Rasa Theory of the Indian Natyashastra. As a teacher, She puts her best efforts in order to create a whole new experience for students.Her aims is to inspire them rather than of merely teaching the rules and principles of art
Significant Contribution
[edit]Having been served multiple roles of a Visual Artist,Curator,Academician,she now runs a trust called Kala Sakshi Memorial Trust to fulfill gaps in art education system, where her aim is to support hardworking and dedicated art students during their academic tenure in field of Fine Arts through award of scholarship as well as mentoring workshop where she brings in people from different areas of the field as experts to interact with those awardees. She was the Vice President of the iconic 'Indian Print Makers Guild' which led to significant contributions by various Artists as Print Makers from 1990-2000 where groundbreaking innovations in Indian Printmaking took place.
She has been a role model as a woman to several young girls who aspire to create an identity for themselves as she never compromised on her own work as well as creating a balance in her own family as a wife,mother,daughter in law and a daughter. Her way of teaching is modified in accordance to the need of the student,where she tries to inspire the not influence them,She aims to develop the own unique thinking process of her students. The award of scholarship by her trust on the basis of merit of the student creates an inclusive environment for economically weaker sections of the society where the youth is being empowered by financial support as well skill development by hands on experience being delivered at mentor ship workshop being held at Sanskriti Kendra, Anandgram.
Impact of work
[edit]Artist Kavita Nayar has created awareness about various possibilities of experimentation in visual arts She has motivated upcoming artists to think beyond traditional ways of expressions, thus exploring the various techniques and concepts to create a whole new way of representation of imagery. She gave the students a path/ a chance to build confidence by speaking about their own work process during the workshops and curating exhibitions for young budding artists.
