Alban Désiré Afène is a Gabonese American author recognized for his significant contributions to the fields of novel writing, short stories, and poetry. His debut novel, "Essola," published by L'Harmattan in France in September 2009, has received considerable acclaim within Gabonese literary circles. The narrative critically explores the validity of ancestral religious practices, which are frequently characterized as malevolent by Christian missionaries, and has achieved notable success. Alban represents a new generation of writers who provide innovative perspectives on African and Gabonese literature. His work, while engaging, addresses complex societal issues, offering profound insights into the challenges that affect community cohesion. Through his literary endeavors, he invites readers to expand their perspectives, foster empathy, and gain a deeper comprehension of individual life experiences and the broader human condition.

Biography

Alban Désiré Afène was born on March 5, 1972, in Port Gentil, Gabon, into a prominent family. He is the seventh among eight siblings. Alban Désiré was raised in Libreville but spent a considerable portion of his adult life living abroad. Initially, he began his academic journey by enrolling in a Law program at Pierre Mendès University in Grenoble[1] in 1991; however, he subsequently shifted his focus to Political Science at the University of Quebec in Montreal after relocating to Canada in 1994. In 2000, he returned to Gabon to take on a role in the Sales and Marketing Department of Gabon Telecom's inaugural mobile phone division, which is currently known as Moov Africa. In 2010, he relocated to the United States.
