Philosophy of The Supremost Comradium
Motto: Palmwine, the Basis of African Unity and World Tradition.
Mission: The supposed goals then were: (i) to upholding African cultural heritage; (ii) to share palmwine (making sure that whoever that could not afford to buy get at least, some to drink) (iii) compete (real fun) between each other on who can resist intoxication from drinking most; (iv) to help getting one another home when drunk; (v) to relieve their minds of the stressful time that they have had at school studying and attending classes (they were all students) and the most important of all is:
(vi) to help one another especially, academically.
The members of the club talk in slang and in codes communicating with one another and signal membership recognition to themselves by raising up the index finger (known as the "One Finger Salute")
Mode of Dressing Dressing of the Kegites’ Club is made up of the regalia (specially made apron) and the capito (hat/cap). Komrads must be properly dressed at gyrations, meetings or any other formal comradic gathering. A chief does not put on a regalia but Agbádá. Language and communication The club has a unique and fascinating way of communicating with the populace (students and non-students alike) and this can only be decoded by members or sometimes by close associates of the members of the club. For instance, the word ‘therefore’ can be written as dia(3+1) and ‘rotate’, written as rot8. Certain words are peculiarly pluralized when Kegites write. For example there is nothing like ‘chiefs’ in comradium but chiefisis or chiefi6; opekes as opekesis or opeke6. The one-finger salute is the most precious feature of the Kegites’ club and it can only be exchanged between members of the club. Words and expressions used in Kegites’ club A.B. Introduction Kegites Club London branch was originally formed as a fellowsis convergence in the early 90’s by chiefesis and fellowsis residing in London as Ilya Du London, but was relocated to the University of East London in 1996, and in 1997, the Ilya formally applied to the World Head Quarters at Ife, for a Keg of Office cum world recognition.
During the deliberations by the World Council of Chiefesis as to whether the University should be admitted into the comradium, Chief Yemi Olodo, Archival Chief Ilya Du Rima, represented the school and London hemisphere at the World Head Quarters armed with the video tape of a powerful gyration held at the University of East London. After watching the video tape, it was decided that the University of East London should be admitted to the comradium as Ilya Du Queen.
Preparations were made after which the Keg of Office was handed over to Archival Chief Yemi Olodo by the then A.B. Chief of World Head Quarters, Chief Olaoti Yemi Dester.
Chief Bayo Oyefeso, Archival Chief, Ilya Du Gongola, transported the Keg from Nigeria to the Ilya, and in November 1997, Chief Olugenga Ogunleye an engineering student cum Archival Special Adviser to the Pioneer Chief, Ilya Du Akete was coronated at Main Hall, Barking Campus, University of East London as the A.B. Chief Ilya Du Queen, a ceremony which attracted Chiefesis from all over the galaxies. Gyrations were held once every two Wednesdays rotationally at the Barking Campus, Stratford Campus and Dockland Campus.
The first initiation was at the Stratford Campus and the first fellow initiated was Fellow Gboyega Bello, however, there was an eclipse on the activities of the club from 1999, when the then Chief graduated until 7th of October 2003 when some students of the university led by Ike Okere gathered together at the Student’s Union Bar Barking Campus to resurrect the club, which attracted so many students and it was formally registered with the school authority on Tuesday 14th October 2003, as Kegites Club, Ilya Du Queen, a ceremony which was attended by the pioneer Chief of the Ilya and two Fellowsis.
During the Club’s and Societies Award Night the society was awarded the Hardest Working Society of the Year 2003-04 by the University of East London Student’s union (UELSU).
On Saturday 18th of December 2004, Ike Okere a final year Law Student of the university cum XYZ Pourer National Head Quarters was coroneted as the A.B. Chief of Ilya Du Queen, a ceremony which was attended by so many dignities including a representative from the University and Naija Community. During the ceremony S.F .Yinka Anyewum and S.F. Lawanson Olayiwola both of World Head Quarters were elevated to Life Senior Fellowsis of the Ilya.

Chef or Life Wire (The President): Like in the native Yorùbá (one of the major tribes in Nigeria) tradition in which the Oba (King) is the head. Whatever the king says hold. Nobody questions or queries whatever the king has said translating to the Yoruba name for the King, Kábíyèsí (no one questions him). The Kegites’club is also monarchically set up with the Chief (President) as the head. The chief could have as well been referred to as an Oba but due to the fact that there can not be two traditional rulers in a city. The first Kegites’ chief to be corronated was Chief (now Professor) Olusegun Adeshina. Other Port-folios (selective posts: there is no election but selection in Kegites’club) in the club include: Elder (Vice President): The elder is next in rank to the chief. The elder is the chairman of the elder’s sitting (a one-time in a regime meeting at which a new chief will be selected). The elders does everything that chief can do in the absence of the chief but he must not hold the Staff of Office (The Horsetail that the chief uses to command). The elder also acts as the adviser to the chief. The parrot promotes the image of the club, publishes the club’s activities and passes information across to the populace. The name Parrot was coined for this port-folio because the native African parrot does nothing but talk. Feda or Feather (The Secretary General): In the olden days, before the advent of pen and pencils, our forefathers use feather to write so, the name coined for this port-folio. The feda takes care of all of the clubs documentation. Takes minutes of meeting and write letters on behalf of the club. Purse (The Treasure): Our mothers used to keep money and other valuables things in the purse. The treasurer of the Kegites’ club is therefore, called the purse. He keeps the club’s money and he is a signatory to the club’s account. Provost Marshall: The provost marshall functions as the guard to the chief and to the members of the club. He is always found standing next to chief like a soldier man. The provost marshall takes charge of the security of the chief and of the members of the club. Cowry (Financial Secretary): Before coins and bills (currency notes) were made and used as money, cowry used to be the money that is used in making payment. The Financial Secretary collects money annual dues (annual legesy) etc) from the komrads and hands it on to the treasurer. Commissioner for Gyration (C4G or C4J): This officer is the one that oversees gyrational activities, making sure that gyration is going on smoothly without any form of interruption. Director of Songies (D. O. S.): The DOS coordinate the singing activities in the club. He sings and gives directions on who sings and who echoes the songs. Cricket: The cricket is a special and a highly valued position in the supremost comradium (the Kegites’ club). Whoever that can sing better than all other singers in the club is usually assigned to this post i.e. the head of singers. Head of Drummers (H. O. D.): The HOD coordinates the drumming activities of the club. He gives instructions on who drums (Pòmósìs) and what tune should be produced. The HOD ensures that there is a balance between the songs and the kinds of tunes being produced. The HOD instructs other drummers (Drummittos) and direct tunes. Le Pour or Pourer: This is the person that is selected to pour holy water in the shrine. He pours palmwine for everybody in the shrin Tapper: The taper ensures availability of the holy water in the shrine. Director of Socials (Welfarer): The welfarer takes charge of all activities involving reception (of any kind) of the club at occasions. The position is usually reserved for ladies/women because she can do it better than men. Transport officer (Transporta or Kétékété): In the occasion that the members of the Kegites’ club have to travel from one place to the other maybe for gyration, this officer takes charge. The transporter is the one in charge of transporting arrangement whenever the club has to go for outside functions. He organizes and arranges for vehicle and ensures that members taken out for gyration (as the case may be) are returned back to school. Curator: The curator functions like the ab’obakú (one that dies with the King) in the traditional Yorùbá setting to the chief. He goes with the chief everywhere and he goes on errand for the chief. Phillosopher: The officer that tells stories and relays the history of the club to members especially, the newly initiated members. Accountant/Accountress: The accountant/accountress sells the palmwine in the shrine. Like the Yorùbá adage will say Àpónlé kò sí f’Óba tí kò l’Olorì (There is no respect/honor for any king that has no wife). The most important officer besides the chief is this last but not the least officer, the Olorì: The Olorì is the wife or girlfriend to the chief. She is the most respected officer of the club. While all other officers are selected by the council of elders, Olorì is selected by no one else but the chief himself. However, of all the port-folios in the Kegites’ club, the port-folio of the Olorì is the most competitive. ILYA DU POLY - FEDERAL POLYTHENIC AUCHI
Auhhi polychenic is located on a stretch of undullation land along the western edge of Auchi town. It is 130km from Benin city. The polythechnic emerged in 1973 under the name MID-WESTERN STATE OF NIGERIA. The polythechnic was an off-shoot of the former mid-west technical college esterblished in1964 as a gift of the British government. Edith no.12 of 1973 converted the technical college to mid- west polytechnic with effect from april 1973. This took of as a multi campus in Benin city. The name of the institution was changed to Auchi polytehnic in 1974 and it headquarters moved back to Auchi year later. In this same year KEGITE CLUB came to be in the institution by the then CHIEF S.E MAGBOR who happen to be the first chief in the institution. Usmanu Danfodio University was established in 1975 and was formerly known as University of Sokoto before the change of name. The university is situated in Sokoto, which is the capital of Sokoto State.
Sokoto as a state or town has a long history. As a town it was the headquarters of the defunct Sokoto Caliphate founded by the revered Shiekh Uthman Danfodio after the 1804 jihad. One hundred years later it transformed into the headquarters of Sokoto Province, which was then more or less a conglomeration of so many states like cities. The political developments that the country witnessed during colonial rule and under self government did not leave Sokoto alone. It was at various times headquarters of Northwest State as from 1967. In 1976, it became known as Sokoto State when the then Niger Province was curved out as Niger State, with Sokoto as state capital, compromising the present Sokoto, Zamfara and Kebbi States. It was in 1991, that Kebbi State was excised and what remained as Sokoto State still maintained Sokoto as its capital. Sokoto continued as the State capital even when eventually Zamfara State was carved out in 1996. Sokoto State is located to the extreme Northwest of Nigeria between longitudes 4° 8’E and 6° 54’E and between latitudes 12°N and 13° 58’N. By its location, it shapes boundaries with the Republic of Niger to the North, Kebbi State to the west and southwest and Zamfara State to the east. Sokoto State covers a total land area of about 32,000 square km.
Kegites Club is well established in the university (ILYA DU RIMA) and the club was well known during the reign of Chief Femi Usmanu because he was a karidable chief that travelled widely. His grandson, Chief Yemi Olodo was controversially popular because of his close relationship with the World Headquarter and in 1991 was instrumental to the transfer of the Federal Polytechnic Sokoto which was a baby ilya to Turban (ABU Zaria) back to Rima. Thus, Rima had two baby ilyasis, Federal Polytechic and Birin-Kebbi Polytechnic during his reign. His marshal during his reign (Fellow Soldier) became his grandson, in the person Chief Oyewole Olusegun. Arch Chief Yemi Olodo was the only chief that represented the now ilya du Queen to get a keg of office from the World Headquarter and he initiated the development of the first kegites website for the comradium.
THE HISTORY OF ILYA DU POTATO - FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC OFFA, ILORIN
THE BEGINNING The Federal Polytechnic Offa was established in the year 1992 and after its establishment came the introduction of so many co-curricular activities owing to the introduction of various social clubs which all-higher institutions are known for. The virgin campus was rearing to go and all the pioneering students were doing there very best to make their beloved institution an acceptable one to the outside world in a very short time. One of such students is the Lawal Koledowo who brought in his vast experience in palm-wine drinking from the Federal Technical College Yaba into use to start a mini sort of gyration. The initiative from people like the above mentioned is what later matured into a bembestic Baby Ilya, but not without its ups and downs. THE CONTROVERSY It's a Palmate Club and not a Kegites Club. Although comradic activities was at its peak in the Federal Polytechnic Offa but the open truth there was that what was being practiced was the doctrine of a Palmate Club and not that of the Supreme Most Comradium. For example, the anthem being used then was the one used in F.T.C Yaba, which happens to be that of a Palmate Club. Although there is no ill feeling from the Kegites unto the Palmates but for national peace and comradic stability all differences and corrections had to be made and after these correction had been made Federal Polytechnic Offa was placed under Kwara State Polytechnic Ilorin to under study. Kwara State Polytechnic is better known in the comradic circles, as the Ilya-Du-Kwateco and so automatically Federal Polytechnic Offa being their baby was referred to as Baby-Ilya-Du-Kwateco. A NEW BEGINNING Although Lawal Koledowo was being referred to as a Chief during the Palmate days, it was Dehinde that was actually first inducted as the coordinator of Baby Ilya-Du- Kwateco. The time of Akanimodo Ataiyelolu came to prove himself as a leader with Jide to post as the Elder. It was because of the karability exhibited by comrades of Federal Polytechnic Offa that Taiwo sort the assistance of Chiefisis and LSF in arranging Federal Polytechnic Offa for a Test of Karability (TOK) After that era came the time of Foster Odhi (Cordi du gentle but volatile) being inducted as the third coordinator of Baby Ilya du Kwateco and his Elder, Abubakar Kayode of which both were HND undergraduate, but the previous two coordinators were both OND undergraduates. THE T.O.K January 17th 1997 has come and gone but it is a day that cannot be forgotten which was during the tenure of Foster Odhi (Cordi du gentle but volatile) when talking about the then Baby Ilya Du Kwateco. On this date all comrades of Federal Polytechnic Offa exhibited that much-touted motto UNITY IN DIVERSITY that Offa was good will remain an understatement, as all present were fully satisfied with our performance. At the TOK four Baby Ilyasis were present that is Offa. Rima, Kano and Ogbomosho. Baby Ilya Du Kwateco shone like the morning star and their performance led by Bayo Akintunde was as sweet as potato; the remaining is now history. THE DAWN OF A NEW ERA The T.O.K came and was preceded by the coronation of the A.B World (ATEX) of the Supreme Most Comradium of the whole galaxy. Foster is a father who gave birth to a king for although his son Oluseyi Fadiya (AKA Mallam Bathure) was initially inducted as the 4th coordinator of Baby Ilya du Kwateco. It did not take much time before it was decided that the result of January's T.O.K be released. Thereafter Federal Polytechnic Offa was confirmed a full Ilya and a keg of office was presented to it on the 9th of August 1997 at the World HQ (Ile-Ife). So Foster's son Oluseyi Fadiya (Bathure) was therefore automatically coronated as the first ever Chief of Ilya Du Potato to be assisted by Fatai Ogunlade (Ilorin) as the AB Elder.
ILYA BENSU - BENDEL STATE UNIVERSITY
Bendel state university was founded in 1982. it was sited in a village known as Ekpoma. In that same year, the light and awareness of the palmwine drinkerds club came to existence. In the same vain, gyration started on campus where ILYA OVIA stands as the ‘’mother Ilya’’ and as result a coordinated was appointed, in person of Otaye Charles was then the coordinator. Moreso in 1983 the quest for keg of office started in the school which led them into the discussion with the then AB OVIA, who later took them down to worldheadquarters to see the then AB WORLD CHIEF, in person of CHIEF KOLA KAZEEM. He approved the application and advised them to search for a soul capable of carrying the load. The then coordinator was coronated by the World Chief. CHIEF OTAYE CHARLES became the PIONEER CHIEF of the ILYA. As a result, the keg of office was handed to him and also a comradic name was given to the school which was christened ILYA BENSU following the numenclature of the school Bendel State University Ekpoma. Chief Otaye Charles started developing the ilya and arranged comrades from 20 to 100 before he coronated. He reigned as AB Chief for 2yrs. He handed the mantle of leadership to Chief Samuel Ojei in the year 1985. He also, tried his best and brought some changes to the club in terms of developments and after his keg year, he handed over to Chief Adesoye Oyetunde which was the first Yoruba Chief. On his part, he handed over to Chief Aldukawu Smart who later handed over to Chief Husseni Oshioke, Chief Husseni handed over to Chief Abeyi Andrew and from Abeyo Andrew to Chief Igberase Odion and from Igberaz Odion to Chief Anouche Godwon who was an AB when the university was changed from Bendel State University to Edo State in the year 1991. He handed over power to Chief Akinriboye Wole and from Wole to Chief Adogie Abdul who later handed over to Chief SteveUdeze and from Steve to the first that graduated with the second class lower and also, the first person that came from ilya du Poly Auchi through direct entry, the person of Loveth Obeto, he later handed over to Kenneth Igbinedion who also handed over to Chief Kem Mazeli, who later handed over to the tallest and one of the most Kariable Chief since Bensu came into existence. That was the person of Idris Musa a.k.a. Kpakpakpa who migrated to twenty-eight ilya’s as an AB Chief. He handed over to Chief Holtons James a.k.a.Celion Dion during his keg year, many developments came into being. He also, migrated like his grand father. Furthermore, the school name was changed from Edo State University to Ambrose Alli University, after his keg year, he handed over to the first law student to be a Chief, the person of Chief Emmanuel Ezekiel a.k.a popular demand. He later handed over to Chief Obasuyi Festus a.k.a. Lagbaja who happens to be the Chief that featured in the popular magazine ‘Ovation’ with the Esama of Benin Kingdom. He later handed over to Chief Nnamaka Emmanuel a.k.a.Chief du politician, graduated with the Second Class Higher Degree in the Department of Political Science. Since the ilya has been progressing as much as the institution undergoes changes, ilya Bensu was not left out. It is pertinent to state here that ilya Bensu is not sentimental in handing over power that is, regardless of tribe, the most carried always emerged as a Chief. Ilya Bensu is an Ilya under Edo/Delta hemisphere.Chief Emmanuel Nnamaka handed over to the present AB Chief who is known for his agility, courage, determination and karability which make the ilya to be ranked as the third most carried ilya in the world by the AB World Chief Adekunle Adetunji Saheed Ewatomi OLUOMO 1 a.k.a. yah, Chiefesis president. The present Chief is by name Afolabi Ayotunde-Olakunle a.k.a. Baby Face Bensu, Apollo 2005, yahoo yahoo, zonal coordinator he has migrated to 37 ilya’s as an AB the club is known to be the best as far as Ambrose Alli University is concerned. The days of jaration in the ilya is as follows Main campus every Wed: 4kmt-6kmt which has been from inception, Emaudo Annex every Friday 3kmt-5kmt and fello6 tent, Sundays 4kmt-7kmt, which is now a new development in ilya Bensu during Chief Afolabi Ayotunde Olakunle keg year. In conclusion, this brief history is subject to rectification because of further developments. Arewa in Hausa language means north.The name"ilya du Arewa"came into existence as a result of the ilya being the 1st branch of the kegites club international in the Northern part of d country.
On how it came into existence in an institution that is located in the centralpart of Kaduna state,&fomerly owned by the 19 Northern states,before the federal government took over its control during the military regime of (gen.Ibrahim Babangida).It started in 1972 when the institution went for the NIPOGA games in Ibadan,hosted by the polytechnic of ibadan;as a result of the entertainment from the Ibadan branch of the club & the joy found in it,some members of the kaduna polytechnics went to the chief present der 2 show der intrest,&they were initiated.
Sunday Ademiluyi,Isaac Adeyemi,Joseph Onemola,&Timothy Suleiman(Buzuzu)became the 1st kutasis of the ilya. On their return from the game,they got the support of Chief Tunde Dabiri(Nat.1/4)who was in Kaduna then,& it was called illya du kadpoly. The club got support 4rm d school mgt,under the rector(mall A.J Tukur)who gave the club a shrine near minnig dept. Chief joseph onemola was coronated as d 1st chief of the ilya in 1976,& was asssisted by isaac adeyemi,who later became his dirrect son,then reign in 1977/78 keg yr.
Chief Adeyemi becam popular as a result of corronating the pioneer chief of most nothern illyasis,which include,ZAUZAU,TURBAN,KITE,AIRCON,YANKARI,ROCK,SAHARA,2 mention bt a few.He led the ilya 2 its T.O.K,@ d 1977 wold gyration along side chiefs Alawoekun,rufai,bola makinde(national),Akanbi(m/shrn). He later handed over 2 chf afolabi (laiwowe),&chiefesis reigned. Arewa chiefs are known 4 karability,expecially in terms of songs & drums,these include chfs like,Adeyemi,Afolabi(laiwowe),kehinde oyewo,wobed,mustapha Bakare,Afolabi yusuf,Lateef Ltopa(epokinkin)Edward ogunshola(choice),Abdulsalam Jamiu Ademola(no-nonsense),samuel Aremu(AB Arewa07/08),7 late chf ulabe patrick,32 mentioned bt a few.
