The story of my life

My name is Pogisho Debeila, and this is my story…

I was born being partially sighted. My dream was to be a  truck driver, but since I have very poor eye sight, my disability didn’t allow me. Nonetheless I still stand by my motto; “never lose hope”.

My mother took me for treatment from 2006 until 2015 at different hospitals just for me to be able to see better. Around the same time I started to attend a school for disabled children, to further my education. I used braille materials and a braille machine from my primary school until high school. This significantly slowed me down, I had to stay ten years in primary school.

At times I felt like dropping out and staying at home, I forced myself to continue. In 2016 I went to Setotolwane Elsen Secondary School in Ga-Mashashane. I passed my grade 8, and then in 2017, I was doing grade 9 but I failed it three times. In 2019 I dropped out of school with a failed report of Grade 9. This made me quite sad, there was nothing  for me to do. In January 2020 I went to Tembisa Abet training, only until March, then I had to go back home because of  Corona virus.

I was thinking about my future and asking myself the question on what am I going to do with my life. I have bad results from secondary school that will follow me. In September, one of my friends started to tell me about  Action for Blind and Disabled Children. I had always been interested in doing computers, so I didn’t waste time. I submitted   my documents and went to register. It was on 20th September 2020 when I first went to Action. They checked my requirements that they needed, there after they told me to come back on the 23rd of September. So on the 23rd of September is where my life with Action started.

Now I am attending classes at Action for a better future on education, and every day I am grateful to  Action for the opportunity; I can surely see a brighter future ahead of me with the skills I am gaining daily.Kanyane pogisho first story @wikipedia
