Anime Bonanza is an annual anime and steampunk convention that takes place in Reno, Nevada and is hosted by Okami Promotions. Anime Bonanza is the second anime convention and first steampunk themed convention in the Reno area and is generally held in the late summer months.[1]
Anime Bonanza's name draws inspiration from NBC's hit western series Bonanza[2] which took place in the same area with the show's characters often visiting the nearby Virgina City, NV.[3] Anime Bonanza is also sister convention to Anime St. George, a yearly anime and Japanese culture convention that takes place in Southern Utah.[2]
Programming
[edit]Programming events for Anime Bonanza include: [2][4]
- Screening Room Featuring anime shows from publishers such as FUNimation.
- A "Dealer's Room" where commercial businesses, and publishers can set up vendor booths to can sell manga, anime and other related items to convention attendees.
- "Artist's Alley" area for local aspiring artists of all talents to set up to sell and display their artwork or talents.
- Special Guest Speakers from the Anime/Manga industry to host panels, ask questions about their work and sign autographs.
- Fan run panels featuring such things as Cosplay work shops, How to Draw Manga and more.
- Interactive anime game shows such as The Anime Dating Game and themed activities such as Ninja Rodeo.
- Wild Wild West Dance and Ball.
- Cosplay and Steampunk Masquerade where contestants can show of their best costumes for glory and prizes.
As an important part of the programing lineup, Anime Bonanza also hosts an annual Food Drive and Raffle to help benefit the Food Bank of Northern Nevada and other members of the community. [5][6]
