Hiteshwar Barbarua
Hiteshwar Barbarua is an Assamese poet and historian. Barbarua, who became famous through the two papers 'Jonaki' and 'Bijuli', rose to fame with the publication of books like Dhupkoli (ঢোপকলি), Komotapur dhwonkho(কমতাপুৰ ধ্বংস), Malosh(মালচ),Sakuku (চকুলো) etc. Barbarua, who also made a name for himself as a historian at a young age, wrote a book called Ahomor Din (আহোমৰ দিন) with the source of mediaeval history of Assam. He also took over as president of the branch of history of Assam sahitya sabha.

Childhood and Education:
In 1876, Hiteshwar Barbarua was born in a village called Horusoraibahi, some distance from Jorhat city. He born in renowned family of Ahom dynasty called Handique. His father's name is Sikou Barbarua. Several men above him, including his grandfather Bhandari Barbarua, got to speak about the royal palace. But as his father's financial condition was not very good, Hiteshwar Barbarua studied up to class VIII at Jorhat Railway Factory School, Tarajan Scholarship School and Jorhat High School. After leaving his studies, he taught the lower classes in high school for a few months. After that he worked as a tea garden clerk.
Literary Practices:
Barbarua, who was more interested in books outside of textbooks, first wrote poems in the two 'Jonaki' and 'Bijuli' papers. He brought a new dimension to Assamese poetry by using the perfect Assamese language even after reading English and Bengali literature. The grief of several family disasters is seen manifested through poetry. The poetry books published by him are-

Komotapur dhwonkho(কমতাপুৰ ধ্বংস )is the third poem in Assamese written in the rhythm of Amitraksha and Malosh(মালচ) is the first Assamese sonnet book.
Barbarua also gained fame as a historian at a young age because of deep study even though education was low. He recorded the book 'Ahomor Din' (আহোমৰ দিন)for six hundred years after the Ahom dynasty ruled Assam and until 1922 during the British rule. Mur khudra jibonor huworon 'মোৰ ক্ষুদ্ৰ জীৱনৰ সোঁৱৰণ' is Barbarua's autobiography.
Death:
Hiteshwar Barbarua died in February 1939.
