David Krell is an attorney, business and legal seminar producer, and media consultant and historian based in the New York City area. Mr. Krell is a member of the bar in New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. He has a JD from Villanova University School of Law and an LLM in Intellectual Property from Cardozo Law School.
Entertainment Industry, Intellectual Property
[edit]Mr. Krell graduated from Villanova University School of Law in Villanova, Pennsylvania in 1992. At Villanova, he won a spot on the Villanova Environmental Law Journal through a writing competition. He was also Editor-in-Chief of The Docket, the law school newspaper. In 2005, Mr. Krell graduated from Cardozo Law School in New York City with an LLM in Intellectual Property.
After law school, Mr. Krell joined the Business and Legal Affairs Department at Broadway Video in 1993. Broadway Video is the owner of Saturday Night Live. At that time, Broadway Video also owned the Lone Ranger, Lassie, and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.
He conducted intensive research on the histories of the company’s entertainment properties to evaluate the company’s intellectual property rights, create a complete chain-of-title analysis, and ensure the proper archiving of elements (master tapes, licensed merchandise, unauthorized merchandise).
Mr. Krell has also consulted on production and legal due diligence projects for Golden Books Family Entertainment and Classic Media. These companies are the successors-in-interest to the non-Saturday Night Live assets of Broadway Video.
In 1995, Mr. Krell joined Spelling Entertainment’s Research Department as a Research Analyst. In this role, he analyzed the Nielsen audience ratings of Beverly Hills, 90210 and Melrose Place against competing shows. He also analyzed the Nielsen ratings of Spelling’s shows in first-run syndication and reruns.

[edit]In 1996, Mr. Krell joined the FOX News Channel as a Fact Writer. In this position, he researched information relevant to the news story that appeared on screen concurrent with the anchor’s reporting. He got promoted to news writer and news producer.
In 1999, Mr. Krell joined MSNBC’s news writing team. He has also written for newscasts at the New York City stations WCBS-TV, WWOR-TV, and WPIX-TV.
In 2001, Mr. Krell was Deputy Press Secretary for the Schundler for Governor Campaign in New Jersey. In this role, he wrote several press releases a day during the campaign, booked the candidate on television and radio interviews (including 14 on election day!), and wrote

In 2006, Producer, Philanthropist, and Minorities Advocate Loreen Arbus hired David Krell for an exciting project at the Museum of TV & Radio (now Paley Center for Media).
Recognized for her humanitarian and professional accomplishments, Ms. Arbus is President of Loreen Arbus Productions, Inc., The Loreen Arbus Foundation, and the Goldenson-Arbus Foundation. She serves on 12 non-profit boards, including the Museum of TV & Radio (now the Paley Center for Media).
Because of her dedication to preserving the legacy of television history, Ms. Arbus conceived, sponsored, and managed an exhibit at the museum honoring her father – ABC-TV Founder Leonard H. Goldenson. Leonard H. Goldenson: The Gentleman Giant featured a comprehensive timeline highlighting memorabilia, photographs, and memoranda from Mr. Goldenson’s personal and professional archives. Included in the exhibit were correspondence from presidents Eisenhower, Johnson, Nixon, Ford, Carter, and Reagan.
Loreen Arbus hired David Krell to ensure the exhibit’s accuracy. Mr. Krell extensively researched Leonard Goldenson’s legacy of massive achievements in media and philanthropy. He worked closely with the other members of Ms. Arbus’ team in protecting the legacy of one of television’s true unsung heroes. In addition to helping shape modern mass communications, Mr. Goldenson committed himself to a range of civic causes, including the development of United Cerebral Palsy, the 5th largest health agency in the world.
Leonard H. Goldenson: The Gentleman Giant ran at the Museum of TV & Radio’s Beverly Hills and New York City branches from August 2006 to April 2007. The exhibit dates coincided with what would have been Mr. Goldenson’s 100th birthday.
In 2007, Mr. Krell began a regular commentary on the Internet radio program Talking Television on www.ksav.org, hosted by Ed Robertson and Frankie Montiforte. His topics concern television history. He is also a frequent guest on the program. Talking Television is now called TV Confidential.

In 2008, Mr. Krell developed the writing workshops Your Writing Is Your Brand™ and Empowering Legal Writing™ to improve writing skills for attorneys and business executives. Using interaction, practical examples, and humor, Mr. Krell skillfully guides the workshops. The workshops focus on the digital age’s astoundingly massive pressure to analyze complex issues quickly, organize analysis in a compelling fashion, and work effectively under deadline pressure.

Charity
[edit]From 1994-2000, Mr. Krell was a member of the Steering Committee of the Young Entertainment Division of United Jewish Appeal Federation of New York. From 1997-2000, he chaired the committee.
In 2006, Mr. Krell co-created the annual Holiday Toy Drive for the Cardozo Law School Alumni Association. The toy drive procures gifts from corporate donors and personal donors that are wrapped by alumni and students. The school then distributes the gifts to Sanctuary for Families, a safe haven for victims of domestic abuse.
