Who invented Soft Licorice? Soft Licorice was invented by Doug Belcher "The Licorice King" in 1965. Doug Belcher, Managing Director of E.T. Belcher stumbled across Soft Licorice when a batch of Licorice All Sorts fell into the Licorice. Kandyland Pty Ltd was a subsidiary of E.T. Belcher before being sold to
Doug Belcher sold the recipe for Soft Licorice to his close friend Monty Lea, family member of the well known family and confectionery manufacturers "Darrell Lea".
