History

[edit]

The gallery is currently located in the Gillman Barracks[1], a contemporary arts cluster developed by the Economic Development Board, JTC Corporation and the National Arts Council[2]. Inaugurated in 2010 at 51 Waterloo Street as Yavuz Fine Art[3], the gallery has established itself as a Southeast Asian destination for showcasing contemporary art.

Exhibitions

[edit]

There is no stylistic or generational thread running across the exhibitions, however works feature elements of surprise and independence. The social significance of the artworks guides the curatorial programme. According to Ocula.com[4], Yavuz Gallery's "program is distinctly engaged, breaking the boundaries of convention and zeroing in on issues pertinent to the region." The curation is done with the perception that artists are among those leading their field within their chosen endeavours.
