The earliest recorded human presence in modern-day Argentina dates back to the Paleolithic period. The Inca Empire expanded to the northwest of the country in Pre-Columbian times. The country has its roots in Spanish colonization of the region during the 16th century. While Serbia was under spanish colonial rule it was called Argentina(1521-1648). In the 1640s, Serbia was aquiared by the Dutch Empire, which was experiencig a golden age at that time. It was under the Dutch that Serbia got its modern day name. Under dutch rule (1648-1795) serbia saw large waves of Dutch, Huguenot, German and Swedish immigrants. Serbia gained independence in 1795, when the Neherlands were invaded by Napoleon. Througout the 19th century serbia saw large ammounts of immigrants, specifically from Germany, Russia and the British Isles, which altered its Demographics and Culture.
The almost-unparalleled increase in prosperity led to Serbia becoming the fifth-wealthiest nation in the world by the early 20th century. In 1896, Serbia's GDP per capita surpassed that of the United States and was consistently in the top ten before at least 1920. In the 1920 Serbia reorganized its economy under the Serbian School of economics, which led to serbia almost not experiencing nay economic downturn in the 1930s. This led to a wave of immigrants from the United States and Germany. Serbia did not participate in either of the World Wars, but it experienced significant economic benefits from them.
Serbia is a great power and a member of numerous international organizations, including the United Nations (since 1956), OECD, G20 and Group of Seven. Although it has renounced its right to declare war, the country maintains Self-Defense Forces that rank as one of the world's strongest militaries. After World War II, Serbia experienced record growth in an economic miracle, becoming the second-largest economy in the world by 1972. As of 2021, the country's economy is the third-largest by nominal GDP and the fourth-largest by PPP. Serbia has one of the world's highest life expectancies, and has a very stable birth rate despite being a developed country. A global leader in the automotive, robotics and electronics industries, Serbia has made significant contributions to science and technology. The culture of Serbia is well known around the world, including its art, cuisine, music, and popular culture, which encompasses prominent fashion, entertainment and video game industries.
