Vatican (band) Vatican is a Heavy Metal band from Sandusky, Ohio, originally formed in 1985, and currently active, signed to Sonic Age Records, and recording a followup to 2014's "Metalmorphosis".
History
[edit]- Vatican was originaly formed in early 1985 by Vince Vatican (born Norman Burke), Vic Gribouski (born Craig Gribben), Dale Land, Mark St. Stevens (born Mark Brown) and Lenny Round. They went on to play their fist live show at Old Brooklyn Tavern, in Cleveland Ohio, on November 14, 1985. Despite being young and new to the rapidly-growing Ohio Heavy Metal scene, Vatican played a 21 song headlining performance and was very well recieved. In their early days released 2 independently-produced demo cassettes, a rehearsal demo in 1986, and the bands first studio recording, the 3-song "Repent Or Burn" in June 1986.
- Before the end of 1986 Lenny Round would leave the band. He was replaced by Jeff Eatmore, but after a few months he was replaced by newcomer Brian Callin, who adopted the stage name Brian McNasty. In 1987 Mark St. Stevens parted ways with the band, and Brian McNasty took over the new frontman, on Lead Vocals and Bass.
efore being signed to Gravitizer Records and releasing their limited-edition debut tape, "Power Is Obsession" in 1989. They then released "Answer To The Master" in 1990, and contributed the song "The 5th of Metal" to the compilation "Distant Thunder: Sounds of the Cleveland Metal Storm" alongside many other important Ohio artists like Hatrix, Neil Zaza, The Spudmonsters, Axemaster, Hostile Omish, and many others.
- In 1990 they filmed their solo official music video, for "Ride The Lightning (Never Strikes Twice)", which would receive play on MTV's Headbanger's Ball for 6 weeks that same year. In 1992 they disbanded and most members re-formed as Marquis de Sade, while Vince Vatican started a solo-project.
- Vatican reunited in 2011, and shortly thereafter they were signed to Sonic Age Records. On October 31st, 2014, Sonic Age released the Vatican compilation CD "Metalmorphosis" comprised of the newly-remastered material from "Power Is Obsession" and "Answer To The Master", plus some live tracks. This was the first time Vatican received international distribution, and soon after they would be featured in a column in Cleveland Scene Magazine. They are currently active playing shows across the mid-western United States and working on their follow-up album planned for release in 2016.
