Mass Communication and Media Literacy

Mass communication and media literacy is just one of many specializations in the field of communication according to the National Communication Association (NAC)[1]. Mass communication includes areas such as advertising, journalism, public relations, social media, movies, and television. One variable when studying mass communication and media literacy is the amount of time people spend being exposed to mass communication. A person who is has been around mass communication more will have a different level of media literacy than someone who has not been around a lot of mass communication[2].
