Quality Assurance in higher education is the system of critical assessment and subsequent recommendation with the objective of improving standards in higher education [1]. The first Arab quality assuring agency was established in 2000 in the UAE. Currently, national quality assurance organisations are present in 12 of the 22 Arab countries. The International Network for Quality Assurance Agencies in Higher Education (INQAAHE) and Arab Network for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ANQAHE) have acknowledged the improvements made including: higher focus towards measuring relevant teaching and learning outcomes, valuing recognition from international bodies, and development of formal procedures in evaluation. INQAAHE and ANQAHE have also identified major flaws in the current system: limited coverage of doctoral programs, research and distance education, recognition of the agencies by international bodies being limited and lack of autonomy from the government.[2]
