The grade 12 results (2010) 36 640 of the 17 255 full-time students who wrote the Namibia Senior Secondary Certificate exams last year have qualified for admission to the Polytechnic of Namibia and the University of Namibia.

Deputy Minister of Education David Namwandi cautioned, the perfomence of full-time and part-time candidates, in particular from Grades A-D remain a concern and a future challenge to the Ministry of Education and the country. The total number of ungraded answers in the 2010 examinations decreased from 9.8% to 9.5%.There are however less A, B, C and D symbols, with an increase in E, F and G symbols.Using a C symbol for English at Ordinary Level or a grading of 3 at Higher Level (NSSCH) as minimum requirement, a total of 3 656 full time grade 12’s can attend university. If a D symbol is used as the requirement in English this number will increase to 7 237. NSSCO results in languages improved. In social sciences candidates also did slightly better, while the Deputy Minister of Education Dr. David Namwandi, described marks for the natural sciences and commercial subjects as “stable”.
