Gian Mauro Borsano (born 6 September 1946 in Domodossola) is an Italian engineer, businessman, former politician and former Torino Calcio chairman.
He bought Torino Calcio in 1989 spring, when the team was on the road for its 2nd relegation to Serie B. He was then able to rebuild the team, gaining a promotion to Serie A in 1990 as tournament winner. He then gained a qualification for UEFA cup in 1991.
On 5 April 1992 he was elected as the best candidate for Italian Socialist Party in Torino - Novara - Vercelli electoral district, gaining 36140 votes[1].
Few weeks after his election Turin prosecutors requested to the Italian Chamber of Deputies the authorization to prosecute him for bankruptcy fraud[2] about Ipifim bankruptcy (1990). The request was approved only in July 1992, but a further request to arrest him was denied[3].
On 1 July 1992 Gian Mauro Borsano sold Lentini (Torino Calcio player) to Berlusconi's squad A.C. Milan[4], stirring up a revolt by Granata supporters[5]. He then sold to other teams also Cravero, Benedetti, Policano and Bresciani, and the club itself on February 1993 to the notary Roberto Goveani[6]. At the end of tghe year a secrect pact between the former president and the notary was discovered
Another authorization request was asked by Turin prosecutors to the Italian Chamber of Deputies for false accounting[7], this one was approved on May 1993 [8]. GIMA went bankrupt in 1994.
He returned on public scene on 2009, he bought another
He was arrested in 2011 for another bankruptcy.
