WWE is an American professional wrestling promotion based out of Stamford, Connecticut. Title reigns are either determined by professional wrestling matches or are awarded to a wrestler, as a result of the culmination of various scripted storylines.
WWE promotes three global touring brands – Raw, SmackDown, and NXT, with the first two being the flagship brands of their main roster.[1] Specialty brands in WWE include 205 Live – a main roster brand for male wrestlers 205 lbs. and under (designated by WWE as cruiserweights) – and NXT UK, which is for wrestlers based in the United Kingdom.
Raw, SmackDown, and NXT each have a top championship and a secondary championship for male wrestlers, a singles championship for female wrestlers, and a tag team championship for male wrestlers. There is also one tag team championship for female wrestlers that is shared between those three brands. There is one championship for the cruiserweight wrestlers on 205 Live, which is the only championship with a weight limit in the promotion, and one male singles, one female singles, and one male tag team championship for NXT UK wrestlers. There is also one tertiary championship, which is accessible to anyone, regardless of gender or WWE status.
There are currently 18 championships in WWE. Among the five current brands, 22 wrestlers hold the championships (including two double champions) as of November 11, 2024. The list includes the number of times the wrestler has held the title, the date and location of the win, and a description of the winning bout.
Current champions
[edit]At the top of WWE's championship hierarchy for male wrestlers are the WWE Universal Championship on Raw, the WWE Championship on SmackDown, and the NXT Championship on NXT—designated as world championships. The Universal Championship is held by Seth Rollins, who is in his second reign. He won the title by defeating Brock Lesnar at Summerslam on August 11, 2019. The WWE Champion is Kofi Kingston, who is in his first reign. He won the title by defeating Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania 35 on April 7, 2019. The NXT Championship is held by Adam Cole, who is in his first reign. He won the title by defeating Johnny Gargano at NXT TakeOver: XXV on June 1, 2019.
Secondary titles for male wrestlers include the WWE United States Championship on Raw, the WWE Intercontinental Championship on SmackDown, and the NXT North American Championship on NXT. The United States Championship is held by AJ Styles, who is in his third reign. He won the title by defeating Ricochet at Extreme Rules on July 14, 2019. The Intercontinental Championship is held by Shinsuke Nakamura, who is in his first reign. He won the title by defeating Finn Bálor on the Extreme Rules pre-show on July 14, 2019. The NXT North American Championship is held by first-time title holder Velveteen Dream, who defeated Johnny Gargano on January 30, 2019 during the NXT tapings (aired February 20).
The WWE 24/7 Championship is a tertiary championship shared across all five brands and is open to anyone (including non-WWE personnel). It can be defended anytime, anywhere, as long as a WWE referee is present. It is held by R-Truth, who is in his record fifteenth reign. He pinned NBA player Enes Kanter in the ring prior to the live taping of Raw on September 9, 2019, which was later shown during the episode.
Tag team championships for male wrestlers include the WWE Raw Tag Team Championship, the WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championship, and the NXT Tag Team Championship. The Raw Tag Team Championship is held by Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode, who are in their first reign as a team and second for both men individually. They won the titles by defeating Braun Strowman and Seth Rollins at Clash of Champions. The SmackDown Tag Team Championship is held by The Revival (Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder), who are in their first reign as a team and individually. They won the titles by defeating Big E and Xavier Woods at Clash of Champions. The NXT Tag Team Championship is held by The Undisputed Era's Kyle O'Reilly and Bobby Fish, who are in their second reign as a team and O'Reilly's third individually. They defeated the Street Profits (Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford) during the NXT tapings on August 15, 2019 (aired August 28).
The WWE Cruiserweight Championship is the only exclusive championship of the 205 Live brand and is for wrestlers 205 lb (93 kg) and under (referred to as cruiserweights); the only championship in WWE with a weight limit. The title is held by Drew Gulak, who is in his first reign. He won the title by defeating former champion Tony Nese and Akira Tozawa by pinning Tozawa in a triple threat match on the Stomping Grounds pre-show on June 23, 2019.
At the top of WWE's championship hierarchy for female wrestlers are the WWE Raw Women's Championship, the WWE SmackDown Women's Championship, and the NXT Women's Championship—the Raw and SmackDown titles are recognized as world championships. The Raw Women's Championship is held by Becky Lynch, who is in her first reign. She won the title in a Winner Takes All triple threat match involving former champion Ronda Rousey and SmackDown Women's Champion Charlotte Flair at WrestleMania 35 on April 8, 2019. The SmackDown Women's Championship is held by Bayley, who is in her first reign. She won the title by cashing in her Money in the Bank contract on Charlotte Flair—who herself had just defeated Lynch to win the title—at Money in the Bank on May 19, 2019. The NXT Women's Championship is held by record two-time champion Shayna Baszler. She won the title by defeating Kairi Sane at Evolution on October 28, 2018.
The WWE Women's Tag Team Championship is the only tag team championship for female wrestlers in WWE, and is shared between the Raw, SmackDown, and NXT brands.[2] It is held by Raw's Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross, who are in their first reign, both as a team and individually. They won the titles by defeating former champions The IIconics (Billie Kay and Peyton Royce), Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville, and The Kabuki Warriors (Asuka and Kairi Sane) in a fatal four-way tag team elimination match on the August 5, 2019 episode of Raw.
The top title of NXT UK is the WWE United Kingdom Championship. It is held by Walter, who is in his first reign. He won the title by defeating Pete Dunne at NXT TakeOver: New York on April 5, 2019, ending Dunne's reign at 685 days. The NXT UK Women's Championship is held by Kay Lee Ray, who won the title by defeating Toni Storm at NXT UK TakeOver: Cardiff on August 31, 2019. The NXT UK Tag Team Championship is held by the team of Mark Andrews and Flash Morgan Webster, who are in their first reign. They won the title by defeating former champions James Drake and Zack Gibson and Gallus's Mark Coffey and Wolfgang in a triple threat tag team match at NXT UK TakeOver: Cardiff on August 31, 2019.
