John Florio is a professor of history at Menlo-Atherton High School in Atherton, California. He attended Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts, where he received a degree in history. He later attended Massachusetts Institute of Technology where he eventually received a Ph.D. in physics in 1987. He began teaching at Menlo-Atherton High School in 1996. He specializes in European history, but teaches world history as well. He is quite infamous throughout the education facility, and he is colloquially known as "Florio" by many alumni.
He also has a pet tapeworm, Maurice, whom he loves and feeds frequently.
Additionally, he coined the euphemism "scrabble," which means sexual intercourse. He has since spread the term, which eventually led to the euphemism being used in the 2009 film Youth in Revolt.
