Randy Petersen Randy Petersen is an American songwriter and producer. He is best known for writing songs for Disney's High School Musical, High School Musical 2, and High School Musical 3: Senior Year. His work includes songs for Pup Star, Pup Star: Better 2Gether, The Lion King 2: Simba's Pride, Aladdin: The Return of Jafar, Hercules (TV series), The Little Mermaid (TV series), and Sister, Sister theme song. His songs are featured on many other movie and television soundtracks.
Along with frequent collaborators Kevin Quinn and Tim Heintz, Randy's work has earned an Emmy nomination and an Annie nomination.
In 2017, Randy added acting credits as the voice of "Shampoo" in Pup Star: Better 2Gether. Early life Randy started playing bass guitar in high school and toured several years in various cover bands. After moving to Los Angeles in 1980 Randy was hired as Sheena Easton's musical director. He later served as music director for Paula Abdul, Toni Childs, and Callaway. By 1990, Randy's songs began appearing in various TV series, animated series and motion pictures.
