Blue Anchor Line

The Blue Anchor Line (officially registered as William Lund & Sons) was a British shipping line that was in existence between 1869 and 1910. The line operated routes between London, South Africa, and Australia. When the company entered liquidation in 1910 it owned five steamships. The Blue Anchor Line is best known as owner of the ill-fated ship Waratah, which disappeared without trace in July 1909 with the loss of over 200 people.

Origins

[edit]

William Lund formed his shipping company in London in 1869. His first ship was a small 320-ton (320-tonnes) sailing ship called the Jeddo, which Lund owned a part-share in. This was complemented by the newly-built 714-ton (715-tonnes) ship named the Ambassador.
