Vandalisers

[edit]

Joy,

See I said I was joining RC Patrol (I'm the 172.166.98.40 from earlier)! Last night I had some problems with 62.197.126.10 and 72.11.217.158. They seemed to be working with 216.194.22.33 at vandalzing image captions. They began by vandalizing the Erik Everhard article, which I reverted. They also messed with Wraith (Stargate) where they added insults to Wiki editor Joe_Beaudoin_Jr.. Next they began vandalizing the Fruit and Faggot (slang) articles, adding phrases like 'In botany, an example of a fruit is Bcshell'. I added comments on their talk pages asking them to stop. Maybe you could do the same, as an administrator? I doubt that they would care, being on an anonymous IP and probably being just kids who think they're 'super l33t' because they changed 4 articles on Wikipedia. Thanks, --Bcshell 17:09, 1 August 2005 (UTC).

Error on Collaborations of the Week at Community Portal

[edit]

Joy, I don't know who else to ask (how long since you last read that one?), but would you please take a look at the Collaborations of the Week section on the Community Portal? It currently wants us to collaborate on the Port-au-Prince and History of South America articles, but the "preview" section still has last week's entries showing. I don't have any idea how to fix it, and I couldn't identify its proponent user. Thanks. --Mddake 02:08, 2 August 2005 (UTC)

Hi Joy,

Just a note to say I've posted the copyright authorisation noteon the item talk page and on your own one also. Anything more I need to do? Just let me know and I'll get to it.

Kind regards Denis

  • Hi, Denis. I've also added a note to that effect on the entry at Wikipedia:Copyright violations. It may take a few days (I'm not actively involved with the copyright project) but I think the notice will be taken down and your article restored. I'm sorry for all the trouble.

By the way, you can sign message by typing four tildes, like this: ~~~~, which makes it much easier to get back to your pages with a reply. Joyous (talk) 21:01, August 2, 2005 (UTC)

Hey thanks!

[edit]

Hey thanks, bud, for reverting that page about Avarik for me. I was just about to do it myself, but I had to read how to first. :-) Since it became common knowledge that Avarik (whom I actually know) had a Wikipedia entry, people has started to vandalise it.

I appreciate the help.

Thank you mulrich

I hate to be a bother, but I was wondering if I might take you up on your very kind offer to nominate me for adminship? I would very much appreciate it if you would. :)

I was trying to train them, alas in vein, to be Sherpas. But, Speck would only carry his blue, Boomer, ball (in the photo). The "mountain" is not very high, more of a hill, it is just the photo. If you know ABQ, it is the volcanos on the west side of town. WikiDon 04:25, 6 August 2005 (UTC)

Well, maybe I can start their training again? Speck is something of an explorer Speck. Why did you write the article about Retinal detachment? Speck detached my left one. WikiDon 04:43, 6 August 2005 (UTC)

Speck has this very pronounced "knowledge bump" on the top-back of his head. We had this ritual when he was but a pup, when I came home I would go down and one knee and he would come around from behind and go through my leg. All the while doing a "happy-hi-how-are-you-wiggly dance" to greet me. I bent my head over to watch him come through and when he got right under my face he reared his head up very fast. That was it, no insurance, $24,000 later, and a left eye where everything looks like a Monet painting when he was 80. And four months ago he went anemic, and a subsequent gallbladder problem, and his doctor bill is over $9,000 and counting. I love my buddy, my main man, even if he is racking it up like a gas pump. Not my vandalism

[edit]

Hi

I just done a search through a search engine for great movies and stumbled upon this site, and I noticed it said I have new messages. I've never actually been on this site before and have certainly never created an account, but I had a message from you saying the following :

Please stop adding nonsense to Wikipedia. It is considered vandalism. If you want to experiment, please use the sandbox. Thank you. Joyous (talk) 01:23, July 13, 2005 (UTC)

I'm sorry if you think I have being "adding nonsense to Wikipedia" but I really have never been on this site before.

  • I'm sorry you ran into a message obviously intended for someone else. Often, messages like that are intended for other people who happened to come onto our site using the same IP address that you're using now. If it's not for you, just ignore it. However, if you like our site and would like to contribute, we'd love to have you. You can sign up for a free account, and never have to worry about getting messages intended for someone else. Hi, I see that you contributed to the VFD page on Occult Scurvy and felt compelled to start a discussion page. You may now find my notes on your Pemphigus and Nummular dermatitis pages. Help with 'lingering links' to a Redirect page?

[edit]

Joyous,

I have been trying to eliminate the links to the redirect page Non-government organisation but have not been completely successful. There are five links left on the "What links here" page, but none of those pages have such a link. They have in common the Charity template, but that template has been edited to include the correct link also. (Sorry, but I don't know how to write a link to the template itself.) I don't know why these links still exist, since all of the others promptly disappeared when I edited the pages. Thanks. --Mddake 04:42, 14 August 2005 (UTC)

  • I don't know what fixed the issue of the five links on the NGO redirect page. Maybe it was the passage of time? Perhaps a refresh has to occur to clear up links involving a template? I don't know. But, as an example of how quickly the WP evolves, there are now 8 more, entirely new, links there today. Oh well, off to fix those too. 21:11, 14 August 2005 (UTC)

Hi Joy and Mddake,

I've had the exact same problem with the Comorian franc web page. It also has a template on it (the African Currencies template). I found out how to remove the other pages which still showed they were pointing to the redirect page. I edited them, and then they showed they pointed to the main page. But the templates still point to the redirect page. SDC 04:52, 14 August 2005 (UTC)

  • Did you actually edit the template itself? If you have not done so yet, I suggest doing that and then waiting about 12 hours (see my comment above). 21:11, 14 August 2005 (UTC)

Hardy Boys vandalism

[edit]

It's actually worse than I thought at first. Take Mildred Benson, for example, which stands out for being one of the longer articles on the list he posted: It was pretty much in its current form until 4.236.54.116 (who just so happens to frequent exactly the same pages as Fwdixon) added the same external links (his first edit on the article). Those links were removed by several editors, and every time reintroduced by one Fwdixon, usually claiming "revert vandalism". After a while, other editors followed the lead and defended his links for him. Same pattern on The Dana Girls. – Most of the other contributions seem to be stubs that may or may not survive a VfD (like Volume 27, The Secret of Skull Mountain). – Even removing the links from the article on Grosset & Dunlap (the publisher) is apparently now vandalism. I would have considered one link from Hardy Boys okay, but quite frankly if someone adds dozens of links to his site I tend to remove them all (check User:Rl/Scratchpad#Link_spam for some of my cases).

As for the second letter: Lower case L. Proof of my utter stupidity when picking a user name. Ah well. Rl 18:27, 20 August 2005 (UTC)

How to determine sockpuppetry?

[edit]

User:Agriculture is concerned that User:Hipocrite is a sock puppet created solely to criticize him. I looked around a bit, and it seems like his idea may have merit. The big caveat is that Hipocrite has not, to the best of my knowledge, made any specific attacks against Agriculture nor has he broken any other WP policies outright. He is maintaining user subpages where he is listing every edit made by Agriculture, which Agriculture views as threatening. I have no idea how to proceed from here. Any advice? Fernando Rizo T/C 00:27, 22 August 2005 (UTC)

  • Joy, unless you really have something you think I should know, you can disregard the above. I talked about it with FreplySpang. Fernando Rizo T/C 00:43, 22 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit]

Hey, Joy. I blocked 143.166.82.38 indefinitely as an open proxy, as requested on IRC, and put a message about it on the talk page. But now I've further been told on IRC that the shortest block (i. e., yours) will void the longer one. So, I'm planning to unblock yours, if you don't object, and then reblock (because the unblock will release all blocks, apparently). Is that OK? Bishonen | talk 00:52, 27 August 2005 (UTC)

Proxy Vandals

[edit]

I've notice you have been reverting vandalism by vandals that are using open proxies. If you ever feel like checking for open proxies, you may want to try this site. It's really easy if you are using firefox, you can setup a keyword for http://www.completewhois.com/cgi-bin/rbl_lookup.cgi?query=%s, so when you type they keyword then the ip address e.g. 'ip x.x.x.x' (x.x.x.x being the ip address) it will show you those listings. Just a thought/suggestion. -- BMIComp (talk, HOWS MY DRIVING) 00:55, 27 August 2005 (UTC)

Many thanks: I didn't know how to check on that. I appreciate the note. Joyous (talk) 00:57, August 27, 2005 (UTC)
No problem. One thing, if you do use that page to check for proxies, make sure to check the text of the red listings when they're there. It'll usually say "Simple http... Open proxy" or something of the sort when it's a proxy. Sometimes they have red listings just because they are dynamic ip addresses (like comcast ips, for example), and when that is the case it will say so next to the listing on that page. In other words, be careful not to assume it is a proxy just because it has red listings. I hope this rambling explanation makes sense. =) -- BMIComp (talk, HOWS MY DRIVING) 01:06, 27 August 2005 (UTC)

Hi, n0-g00d. It looks like there won't be a problem with deleting the article as soon as our minimum discussion time is up. Joyous (talk) 01:27, August 30, 2005 (UTC)
Thanks for a speedy resolution this is embarrassing to me and our community.

I'm Back?

[edit]

um...?

[edit]

I believe you sent me a message saying, "Do you have an outside source to document the article Emily Thomas?" Emily Thomas is not a well documented musician because her music is not played on MTV or other popular music channels. I believe she likes to call her genre "Indie." I was GOING to explain this to you along with that I shouldn't need an outside source other than me: I am her aunt and I know Emily better than anyone, HOWEVER, I discovered that the page was deleted before I could do this.

I'm sorry the article on Emily Thomas was deleted. We have a few guidelines about verifiability and the inclusion of biographies. One point is that we need to be able to verify information in articles from some other source. Otherwise, in an encyclopedia that anyone can edit, articles could be created about people who don't even exist, and we'd have no way of knowing. The other issue was one of notability. There are literally thousands of young people in small bands, and we don't generally want articles about everyone. There is a page here with guidelines for the inclusion of bands, and another with guidelines for inclusion of biographies. Emily is probably a fine musician, but at the moment, her impact on the music scene seems to be minimal. There may well come a time, when she's had time to develop more of a following, that we'd welcome an article on her.

I hope this helps; it's irritating to come back and find that your work is gone. If there are any other questions I can answer, please feel free to leave me a message. Joyous (talk) 00:20, September 2, 2005 (UTC)

Vandalism

[edit]

Vandalize? That's not vandalism; vandalism is "I like to eat my own fecal matter." Dkkiks is my cousin, why don't you let him change it and mind your own business?

How was anyone supposed to know that you are his cousin? It's considered a courtesy here to revert damage to the userpages of others. It's also a custom to be polite in communication. Joyous (talk) 00:17, September 2, 2005 (UTC)

Joy, take a look at the anon's edits.... don't let the trolls get to you either :) Ryan Norton T | @ | C 00:38, 2 September 2005 (UTC)

Cousin

[edit]

Hmmm, maybe because the page mentions the word cousin which would imply it was written by him. Maybe you people shouldn't assume that all random edits to people's pages are malicious vandalism. This is just a small friendly reminder to him of the rivalry which exists between our two favorite teams.

CSD G4 on AfD

[edit]

Hello Joy. There's an article currently listed on Afd that appears to be a recreation of one you once deleted via VfD in March. I'm going to place the CSD tag on it (G4); however, if it's not a "substantially identical" beast, please feel free to remove it (I'm presuming that as a sysop you have access to a copy of that old page somewhere). Best wishes—Encephalon | ζ  10:11:58, 2005-09-02 (UTC) Hmm. I've just noticed that the new "article" makes reference to something that couldn't possibly have been in it in March. Anyway, please do (or don't do!) as you see fit. Thanks!—Encephalon | ζ  10:14:27, 2005-09-02 (UTC)

Ben is coming ...

[edit]

I didn't do Dave, this is a business, he did his own. You could remove him.

Britney Spears article

[edit]

Joy Stovall, you're a fucking idiot. Why do obstruct freedom of speech ? It is a constitutional right. I'll go to the Supreme Court. Britney

Sorry. The Chief Justice just died, so things will be at a bit of a standstill for a while. Enjoy your wait. Joyous (talk) 14:57, September 4, 2005 (UTC)

Any bored admins want to unblock me? I accidentally blocked myself. Help. Please.....

[edit]

Why, yes, I *AM* editing quite soon after waking up. How did you know? Joyous (talk) 14:19, September 5, 2005 (UTC)

I think you're unblocked. -- Curps 14:28, 5 September 2005 (UTC)
Thanks. Joyous (talk) 14:29, September 5, 2005 (UTC)
I'm pretty sure you can unblock yourself, unless they've changed the Mediawiki software recently. Certainly if it was a self-applied blocked nobody would mind. -- Curps 14:38, 5 September 2005 (UTC)
I considered it penance for being an idiot. I'll be more careful which button I press next time. Joyous (talk) 14:40, September 5, 2005 (UTC)
